Contractor wont spray field

Out of interest why would the pay out need to be 4-5times The value of the crop? Surely only needs to be equivalent to the True value of the crop for everyone to be happy? Doesn’t change the outcome but just curious.
In my case that was the problem the insurance company wouldn't pay for the loss of the next years crop
I was in the 3rd year of 4 year cycle multiplying up from mini tubers don't make any money on till sold after the 4 th year
So my loss was very large

err, I certainly wouldn’t spray 24D or any of its derivatives anywhere near a neighbours cotton crop. Or sunflowers or canola or grain legumes or . . .
In fact, any contractor I know would refuse to do so
And I know my neighbours & “most” of the farming community in this area would be just the same

If I had oil seed rape in a field and my neighbour sprayed the grass or cereals next door as long as it didn’t drift I wouldn’t bother and I certainly wouldn’t say he couldn’t as I had put oil seed rape there. Unless they were going to compensate me for not using my own field. We quite regularly have crops that are sensitive to each other a few feet apart and spray them both. Fodder beet and cereals come to mind as they often share a field. It just take a small amount of management to make sure the breeze is going to the right way etc.

In this case I have no issues with the contractor saying it was too rough etc and refusing to spray it

The problem with drift on to a spud crop is that the damage may not be apparent until the seed is used next year. The tubers don't grow into a crop properly and suddenly you have a claim for thousands.

When you drift Atlantis on to next doors OSR it's normally less of an issue because the yield and total value of the crop is much lower and it's obvious what has been damaged.
