Contractor wont spray field

To Ollie and Robt . yes it was heavy evening and changed in the early morning to lift it up miles. Also after a that few years later
we had a similar weather pattern that picked up straw
burning smuts that dumped on August bank holiday in central London that resulted in the incorporation time after burning and the eventual ban.
Yes but how on earth do you prove it was a farm 20 miles away?

When it goes so hot that most stop spraying it wouldn’t take long to find out. I would know most sprayer models and their drivers within 20 mile of here without thinking to hard, also what crops most would be on, ie who’s growing OSR so would be spraying off before anything else etc..

contractor wont glyphosate field because neighbour has seed potatoes in field next door says if crop goes wrong he has to compensate them 4 or 5 times the value of crop is this usual or is he taking the mick because he does not want to do job also complaining field very rough .ploughed 3 years ago and left that way ever since
Out of interest why would the pay out need to be 4-5times The value of the crop? Surely only needs to be equivalent to the True value of the crop for everyone to be happy? Doesn’t change the outcome but just curious.

I was trying to generalise that some weather situations are not the norm and you have to be aware. In the oringal post I agree I would not spray but do cultivations. I cannot understand why he asked as he’s against chemicals.

If you fill in a spray record and the wind is blowing away from the tates and you have done all you should and recorded it then how can anybody make a claim on you?
If people are saying that somebody could still make a claim then what's the point of records and quality assurance?
We grew tates and never had a problem, even though the sprayer often sprayed round up on the job before. Washed out properly.
I wouldnt spray somebody elses rough field though. I might have done when young and foolish but you soon learn.
Discing it is worse than useless if its infested with perennial weeds. You will lose the tops and any chance of getting a decent kill with glyphosate.
Let the buyer spray it off when the tates are gone. Won't be that late for seed surely and still time to get grass in.
I'm suprised nobody has blamed Dominic Cummings yet. :ROFLMAO:

I think the op idea of discing it was both to level it (which will need doing before grassing down anyway) but also to knock the weeds back so they could be sprayed/killed properly later, once the spuds are gone.

Did you grow seed potatoes?

I grow my own seed potatoes & only use one sprayer but do clean it out extremely well with all clear. Oddly roundup just a triple rinse with water, will use all clear now.

Surely anyone can use their land as they wish, but if their actions affect a neighbour it is their responsibilty.

ie if the neighbour is school, intensive cropping or busy road. The landowner has to manage the land to not damage his neighbour. ie don't spray SU's in the wind next to beet, don't turn a herd of goats in a badly fenced field next to a busy road or keep limmies that are calving next to the school playing field. Or put Jacob tups next to pedigree Texels pre tupping time for that matter.

Err, any contractor is well within their rights to refuse to do any job, especially if they think the risk is too high, the conditions are too rough for their gear, the job is too small or difficult to be profitable, or they just don’t want to do it . . .
As a planting contractor in the past, I’ve turned down work for all the above reasons . . .

Agreed, I wouldn't deliberately let it drift onto the neighbours crop no different than if it was my own but i wouldn't not spray something as the neighbour has planted something there thats a bit "sensitive"

err, I certainly wouldn’t spray 24D or any of its derivatives anywhere near a neighbours cotton crop. Or sunflowers or canola or grain legumes or . . .
In fact, any contractor I know would refuse to do so
And I know my neighbours & “most” of the farming community in this area would be just the same
