Is any one charging to make silage by the ton ?
Our new forager has a system on it the weigh the grass & take the D/M content & this is what we are planning on doing in the next few years for the people that want to pay by the ton, we will charge some much per ton for the complete job.

Hmm...........cant see it working as there are a few variables how does swarthing get included in the price? how will you work out if said farmer wants it wilted for two or three days? then in the wet year how will the farmer handle the extra water from the rainfall........................................

When I was at silage in Australia a lot of it was done by the DM/T all over a weigh bridge though, has the harvester got that level of accuracy at weighing crop? in NZ everything was on an hourly rate

What happens if the system on the machine fails? Do you have a backup? Or will you go back to hourly until it’s fixed.

may be wrong, but if a weigher on a lorry is not good enough for trading standards, and its static and set up right very accurate,
then how can a weigher on a moving forager be acceptable, variety of loads, through put, and DM to take into consideration,
have you cleared it with trading standards?
i think trading standards would insist on a Weighbridge,
also if its done by the acre, you can go back months if there is a dispute over the bill,

tell us more on how it works

edit, what benefits will this extra cost to you have in the long term

Several here in cornwall doing it for selling maize by the £per ton dm. Have at least to weigh trailers in the gang, combine with John Deere Harvest Lab.

We have been using it here, several trailers have on board scales as well, works very well together as the chopper is only as accurate as your calibration, which needs a close eye on it.

No charge for anything all done on a per ton price based on D/M per ton only thing that would be extra is tedding if it got wet
