Conventional bales to rolls of string

Anyone any idea how many (roughly) conventional bales a pack of string will do? Just trying work out how many to get! Cheers

Confusingly it depends on the ball size as well as the nominal length. The manufacturers now do larger balls of the same diameter string, which makes the calculation more complicated. For example Cordex 10000 string comes in two pack sizes, the standard which would do about 500/pack, and the large which would do 750ish.

Are i see, bobk must have bigger balls to get 624, still have 126 bales missing, that will be the Jones baler throwing loose untied bales to get back to the 624

We must get larger pack sizes from Cordex as we can get 900 bales out of a large pack of 9250 ( trucker ) twine.
On the standard size spools I reckon you get 600 out of a pack of 12000, 500 out of a pack of 10000 ( hay ) twine and 450 out of a pack of 9250.

Bales are now 6 inches shorter than the Roaring 70s when we all made hay and could pick a bale up under each arm
And Jack and Tommy were out most days baling hay , two famous local contractors , they always stoped at the full pub for a pint on thier way home

That's rubbish. Your calculations take no account of the length cut off to tie a gate, a loose fender on the tractor, tie a broken shovel shaft, etc. I need an extra ball just to cover those emergencies.

You use new twine for tying gates?

I use new twine for marking out drains , run the digger track 4 inches from the string

One day I was setting out to the merchant. Leaving the farm track onto the valley road I saw baler twine which went on and on. It is about 2 miles to the main road. It ran out a bit before I got there. I picked up a length for my own use on the way back.
Sis told me she had the same in Anglesey but she caught up with the culprit and stopped him.
