Cook trailers

Hi all,

Does anyone have any feed back on Cook trailers? I don't believe they make trailers anymore and was just wondering if anyone knew why. There is quite a tidy one for sale nearby but don't want to get my fingers burnt if they had some sort of inherent flaw. It looks like a nice well built trailer from the photos tbf

Thanks!

They are ok but not the best in my opinion. They were built not far from where I come from, the original trailers built my Mr Cook had a réputation for being well built possibly over engineered in some places but not in others. We had a 12 ton corn trailer that probably was built in the 70s it rotted out in the floor a couple of years ago and is now at a new home being repaired. The latest second generation were built at the cook factory buy a guy I went to college with, he had a year or two at it and I think they realis3d there wasn’t enough money in it to be worth while. They were alright as a trailer but not a patch on a Bailey of Stewart in my opinion, combined with that bloody awful orange paint that faded within a year I went Bailey rather than local when I bought my last bale trailer. Make sure you check the welding properly as whilst I have been writing this I have had a vague recollection come to me that they had a problem with axles falling off and the welding being poor in places, it was probably getting on for ten years ago now so don’t hold me to that. If the price is ok and you have a proper look over and under it you might be ok.

Thank you very much for that! I haven't been to see it but the price is quite keen, a good 3-4,000 less than a bailey or equivalent. I'll have a good look over the welds if I do decide to see it and go from there! Did you hear anything about their stability? It's 16t with silage sides but I didn't think the springs looked that beefy in the photos for the weight! Thanks again

I couldn’t comment as I have no direct knowledge of the new designs other than rumour that I used to hear locally. The original on we had had been on its side a few times, once nearly by me in a situation that should not have been a problem! I guess the fact they no longer make them should say something! If you want info on it the guy who was in charge of making them is now m.d. at cooks I believe, he might be able to give you some info on build spec, his name is Richard Solley.
