We know exactly what needs to be done:
  • Scrap GDP as a progress measure
  • Mass insulate all properties
  • Raise fossil fuel taxes each year, significantly
  • Make public transport free (or nearly free)
  • Cut aviation by 90%+
  • Fundamentally change planning rules to require all non- rural homes to be within walking distance of employment and food retail
  • Begin closing all out-of-town retail and business parks
  • Ban ALL single use plastics and ALL petrochemical based clothing
  • Outlaw "fast fashion"
  • Remove AD subsidy except on >95% waste fueled units
  • Revoke fossil fuel exploration licences
  • Scrap RHI but provide 75% grant for renewable heating installations
Hardly an electable manifesto though, is it?
I’d vote for it 👍

Don't you think the weather had become less predictable? I certainly do
39 hear. Climate more predictable now than the late 90s early 00s. It was always a battle back then. It used to be pretty common to see patchy fields with drowned out patches and cutting barley at 25%

unusual to see anything up here now other than wall to wall good crop and pretty unusual to be cutting above 18%.

This ELMS lark is a complete load of bullsh!t that should be totally ignored, all the governments high handed talk of carbon neutral by any date is totally dependent on UK farmers signing up to this farce, it is only the UK farmers that can make any positive contribution to the planet as they are now in fact already doing.
Big business like BA, so called green energy suppliers & all the other charlatans buy a couple of hundred acres plant a few thousand tree & hey presto magically they are carbon neutral, what about the other 99.999 per cent of UK land that we farm, how come we are not carbon neutral with virtually all of the UK being farmed.
I notice this morning Bozo has bunged the doctors on £100,000 a year plus another £250 million to do the job they are already paid to do for maybe three or if you're lucky 4 days a week, these people have not invested £100s of thousands of pounds setting up their business, they do not work 7 days a week to keep the country fed & yet a quarter of a billion £s can be found just like that!
As I say farmers should tell the government in no uncertain terms that unless farmers get a fair deal they should shove their ELMS somewhere where it hurts!

Everyone knows what needs to be done to reduce carbon emissions:

1.Travel less
2.Shop local
3,Buy fewer manufactured goods

The trouble is what that really means:

1. No flying overseas, no travel for "pleasure"
2. Eat locally grown food and only in season
3.Only buy what you need, not what you want (like fashion clothing)

The trouble is that the public will refuse to do any of the above and no Government will enforce these things because of the impact on the economy-let allow their chances of re election.

Drove along M80 onto m8 a month ago and the rubbish lying along the roadside was a disgrace, even a huge pile of fly tipping under the M8/M80 junction.
Hope they have cleared it up before the guest come to discuss the environment!
But I doubt it! 🤦

Now convince China and India to sign up to the those.. even unelected governments would be hard pushed to go to the lengths necessary. You have also missed the most critical factor in all climate and environmental degradation. one that really has no palatable solutions, the ever growing human population...

This is the problem. No government in the world is brave enough to do what is needed as the public would not accept it.
They have decided cows are the scapegoat. Remove cows which frees up some cheap land for tree planting and all will be fine. They are seen to be doing something and leave the real problems to future leaders.

I am dissapointed that the IPCC AR6 still recommended deep cuts in methane emissions. To be fair it does very clearly state that it is only recommended in order to cause a "temporary pulse of cooling" to buy time to properly create "deep and lasting cuts in fossil carbon emissions" but that caveat will almost certainly be utterly ignored by the politicians unless we ram it right down their throats:

We are ONLY going to go along with cutting ruminant methane emissions if you get on with imposing huge cuts to carbon emissions, not just "offsetting" them, actually CUTTING THEM DEEPLY.

I`m 70 , much more snow in the 60`s & trying to finish hay in september.
There are always year on year differences which probably normal
BBC & their mates go on about "worst since records began" often turns out that is less than 50 years
Point is for this climate change malarky, the comparison should be on centuries .
We know floods in 1770 washed all the bridges away on the Tyne
Pics of people skating on the thames, was that 1800`s
The historians on Hadrians Wall think the weather was fairly mild when the romans were on the job
The list goes on

I for one am fed up with these pompous ass holes trying their very hardest to make farmers the whipping boys of this so called climate "emergency", I'm a big fan of the royal tradition but was a little surprised when Charlie decides to tell the world he's doing his bit by giving up meat on Mondays & Tuesdays as if it made a difference, bet that went down really well with his hundreds of livestock producing tenant farmers, if it's such a great idea how about rent free Mondays & Tuesdays just to balance the books up a bit!
A wise old chap once said "better to keep your opinions to yourself & let people think you're a fool then to give them & confirm all their suspicions"! Maybe the queen should have passed this advise onto Charlie & Andrew a long long time ago.
Great play is made of organic farming but for 95% of livestock farmers the only difference between organic & traditional farmers are a couple of cwt of fertiliser per acre which is a minuscule part in the grand scale of the problem.
