Cord wood

Got a load of cord wood from hedge laying from the last few years , it's all stored in a shed, mixture of holy, ash, cherry, some oak, and withy. Got someone interested in buying it for a wood chip boiler. What should I be charging him? , and what's the best way to got about it? Get it chipped at the shed then sell it by the trailer load so sell by the ton/cube? Or sell 1st hand as it is in the shed? Need to be fair for both sides. Thanks

Go to this years APF & ask folk there. I went, hired a Mog + Heizohack chipper to do exactly what you are looking to do. You need a decent sized pile for them to visit not just ten minutes work.......
Take a picture & measurements with you so they can give an estimate as to what you & for goodness sake make sure your pile is neat as trying to load from a pile of something resembling the game 'pick-up-sticks is not the way to encourage an operator to visit. Also make sure your trailerS are ready to roll rather than another hate, 'the hang-about-game'. (y)

if its in lengths longer than 2.3m sell it as firewood, probably worth £50/tonne with no processing costs.
If its dry and bent/twisted sell it for roundwood chip, would expect a minimum of £50/t with not pprocessing costs.
If you get it chipped which will cost between 9 and £16/t but its then worth up to £95/t. Just remember the chipper must be able to get to it or you need to move it to where it can reach it.

Some years ago but it was an interesting experiment.

Anyone had prices of softwood cord recently? Just been quoted £65 a tonne for fresh felled larch delivered in! Last load we bought in November was £40!!
I think lots of people biomass will be switched off permenantly this winter! The wood will cost as much as the RHI

But if you had needes the heat without the rhi you would have paid for a boiler and the oil, now you are just paying for the boiler and the fuel is free because of the rhi and people still moan.

As i said there is a labour cost associated with processing "the fuel". You also have to "run" a biomass boiler. Something you dont with an oil/gas system. The infrastructure is also an additional cost, storage space of the fuel etc and also the high cost's associated with the installations to begin with and dont forget loan repayments for those that borrowed to install them.

That’s how it should have been not a profit making scheme it would have eliminated all the multiple boilers on one site

Couldnt agree more. Too many boiler owners got greedy and are now upset that the fuel will cost them money. If they dont like it they shouldn't have created the heat requirement in the first place to profit from it.

Unfortunately these systems do take a lot of work to keep them running. 2 services a year at approx £250 a time. One mandatory by an approved person!
Our system takes approx 30 man days a year to split the required wood. And all the associates machinery and storage cost let alone the cost of the wood!
