Cordless alliance system - will it catch on

Just seen this today in a mail from metabo. Wouldn’t this be good if this caught on with all cordless tools?
You could then buy on product spec, and not because of the batteries you already have.
Unfortunately I can’t see it catching on between direct rivals. i.e. Metabo, Milwaukee, Dewalt,MAkita.
From the list of members it looks like specialist companies, who don’t directly compete with each other.
I’ve heard of a few, rothenberger for pipe tools, Steiner heat guns and Fischer Fixings.

I wonder what percentage of profit there is from the battery alone on a power tool, the higher it is the less likely they will get everyone on board.

look how long it took them to all get into the one boat re phone charger sockets and that wasn't going to make much profit or loss for any manufacturer.

like you all i see there is a list of crowds that would rather have someone else do the leg work on battery's so they can assemble the tool end and not be dumping money into a technology that's forever changing.

I also don't know about Metabo being the "market leaders" in battery's, according to AVE on tests and tear downs he did Milwaukee had the best cordless battery's.

If there's such a markup why doesn't someone make adaptors so that one battery fits a competitor tool. You could then buy the tool that fits the job not the battery.
I was just going to add about adaptors but I have also always thought a transformer that clipped in would be good so when your battery is flat and you are near power you could carry on using the tool

There was/is a ryobi hybrid leaf blower, use it on mains or battery.
Makes sense, blow leaves until flex has ended then finish on battery.
A hybrid drill would be less useful as you tend to be working further away from 240v

adaptors for the most makes of tool batteries that you can use on a catlle clipper would be handy.

So that you can use your makita batteries in your clippers. But may become a little heavy then.
