Cordless clipper

Any advice on what make of cordless clipper is best?got a heiniger handpiece with battery at the moment but find too bulky especially when im on the side of the hill catching a lamb with fly strike!!

I know it's the opposite of what most folk seem to do, but try not to clip the wool off any sheep with fly strike. Treat it effectively and then leave the wool as protection to aid healing.

If you actually read the bottle of pour on, for teating struck sheep it clearly says to remove the wool...

If you've tried applying Crovect without removing the wool you will, firstly, not kill all the maggots and, secondly, need to expose yourself and the ewe or lamb to far higher levels of the cypermetherin than necessary to cover the struck area.

Crovect isn't too bad. I think you're thinking of Dysecy which is Alphacypermethrin? But you really don't want to be f**king about with either too much (working it in by hand)

Permasect C - crop grade 11% cypermethrin, probably been banned now, it was the go-to insecticide before Hallmark came along

They are very good. Battery seems to last ok. Not quite as quick as mains powered but very close. 3 batteries in the box. Dagged lambs through the clamp with them. Had a jakoti shears 2 yrs ago, should have bought one of these instead. If you buy one you won't be disappointed. Got to keep sharp cutters on them as the more you tighten the cutter down the more strain on the battery. Think last time I had the mains machine working was about a year ago dagging the ewes. It's not heavy either.

Just bought these, and they are a great job, so much easier than a cable trailing around.

The OP was talking about clipping the wool off a strucken lamb, Tell me again, why would anyone clip the wool of a lamb that's struck.

And if the makers of Crovect say to remove the wool, particularly off a strucken lamb, they are giving the wrong advice.

The OP is talking of removing the wool from the struck area. The makers of Crovect give you directions of use to ensure the product works properly.



How do YOU treat a struck lamb? What do you use to kill the maggots and how do you ensure you have found and killed them all?

Hi, any idea where to get a replacement battery? Spoke with the supply coming but they wanted a mint, must be an off the shelf item that could be sourced cheaper else where. Good bit of kit, had 3 years and paid for itself smartish
