Core plug ..... missing

Random post sorry ( standard for me)
Probably no answer to my question sorry other than suck it and see.??
Viewed a track chipper today . A possible purchase.
Its bin parked up for a few years in a dry shed.
On inspection No coolant. Turns out 1 core plug about 15mm is missing, near exhaust manifold.
We cant find it anywhere, but not a clean floor. We don't know how ,wen it ,vanished.
.presumably possible frost damage ??
Have to say Engine frapped easily, sounded nice . Ran it about 30 seconds .
IF it came out under load presumably would have caused obvious issues, overheating.
Could the frost idea have damaged else were ....

Presumably new plug , refill. Run 30 minutes , re assess???

Will have to return as cant run it with no coolant

Readily available- around 30p - tap one in and fill and pressure test the cooling system

Same style as DB, MF used.

Just used to clean the hole with mounted wire brush on a drill and bang them in with a socket. Never used sealant, but can't see Hylomar doing any damage.

I haven't put a core plug in for a very long time. I've only experience of the domed ones, but I seem to remember that having got it into position, the trick was to give it a tap in the centre to spread it slightly to secure it.

Before you add water, check the engine block drain, or radiator drain for coolant or water and see how rusty and or weak it is.

Could be lucky and it’s only the core plug that’s heaved. Could also be a multitude of hair line cracks and stretched bolts that will only become evident once the engine warms up.

I sorted out a Ford 2000 that had been frozen.
Core plugs out of block, one behind injector pump.
Radiator bottom tank split.
Top hose to thermostat housing neck split.
Core plugs in head under rocker cover popped...

I know the dexta engine will crack if frozen, presumably same engine?
Ive bought a ebay pressure test kit ,looks surprisingly good for the money.

The cheap pressure testers are fine, provided it's got the radiator cap fitting that you need.

If you have an overflow tube, you can usually blow air back through that into the radiator, by mouth even. It won't test pressure that well, but blowing by mouth is enough to tell if the water will pour out or not.

They need a bit of hammer time.
I used a socket that fits inside the cup of the plug.

Have you measured the hole compared to the new plug?

Did you get metric or imperial plugs?

Bought a set of ebay , metric.
18mm wouldn't go in . I think now , bigger hammer required.
Took photo off the numbers on block.
Diesel shop has sold me 6 18mm and 6 30 mm
He assures are correct.
I was being cautious with hammer because aluminium head .
New 18 and one i tried basically identical.
I have to return, machine 30 minutes away.
