Hi,

Not sure if that's the right place to ask,

Could you please advise on below,

The company i'm working for has around 7t of corned beef stock which is a by product of our corned beef production

Would this have any use as a fertilizer as we are looking for potential use rather than throwing it ?

Do you have an analysis of nutrient content?

Have you considered offering it as a feedstock for anaerobic digestion plants?

Hi,

Our Cat3 waste currently goes to processing plants but I was hoping that we could find another route for this cookout.

I will look into the anaerobic digestion further, this is a good idea. Do you have any contacts or recommendations?

What we are trying to do is find a home for this as a by-product not as CAT3 waste as part of our sustainability projects on site.

We have the nutrient content from the labs it is mainly water with 19% fat, 6% protein.

I feel the fat content may be a sticking point (sorry) - it has no nutrient value and may cause rancid stenches and attract rodents. I understand there are firms that collect unwanted fats for processing into biofuels or perhaps you can use it as fuel for your own factory.

Oh and another thing, the nitrogen content of protein is about 16% so < 1% N - N being the fertiliser bit. So not a great deal of nutrient, not even enough to pay for transport for any distance, - you would probably have to pay thrifty farmers to take this off your hands.

If you can de-fat and de-water this you could sell it to organic farmers and gardeners as an alternative to the traditional hoof and horn or meat meal fertilisers.

Thanks Bogweevil.

We have considered separating the fat and it is an option that is fairly easy for us to do during production. It's whether someones interested in the stock with fat or without.

We have done a number of things on site around sustainable energy, just not using the fat!

That's really useful info about the nitrogen.

With regards to the de-watering and de-fatting this is another possible route for us to look into.

Thanks for your help.

These are the folks to talk to, they can reclaim the fats and have an AD I believe.
