What are you doing about deposits for people who cancel holiday let holidays?

Can you encourage them to roll the booking over?
I’m sure many would prefer a refund tho, jus thinking rolling it over may encourage them to come back rather than go elsewhere.

Mum had an apartment booked in Greece and decided to cancel. She assumed she would lose her deposit.
The apartment owner sent her deposit back and said we are all in this thing together.
Mum says if we get through this she will rebook the same place. So will I if it helps them.

My feeling is if I could get the bank to give me a 1 year freeze on loans for them I could get through ok. Farm could contribute a bit for sure.
Wonder if something will emerge this week.
I'm not moaning by the way I know many are in a lot worse position than me.

This virus certainly seems to have hit the major growth industries of recent years hardest - leisure, travel, eating out, shopping etc.
It will take a while for those to recover too I think - if people have been hit hard even when it's over there may not be the money to spend on luxuries for a while until finances are better.

My in-laws have contacted all their bookings and offered credit notes for 12 months and all but one have taken up the offer.

Airbnb are offering full refunds including their admin fee. April went from full to empty in the space of a few hours on Thursday afternoon.

We were just about to put our new holiday let online with the agency this week. Had a barney with the wife about it earlier in the week, as I felt encouraging people to come was against the spirit of the advice to avoid non-essential travel. The ban on pubs etc. opening puts operating a holiday let at the minute even more out of step with the current situation. However, I saw a local place advertised as 'come and self-isolate at....' and the biggest local players are fully booked with folk doing the same.
