Corona - Holiday Lets

Likewise!

Yesterday Sky news app had the antibody test as their top story.....BBC app had something quite negative.

This morning Sky news app had "London could be free of the virus by the end of the month" whereas BBC app "Unions say schools shouldn't go back so quickly".

BBC really don't like to run the good news stories.
My take on those two stories was, the idea that if London is free of the virus in a month, all those free range pig men are going to get hit, as pigs fly out of the field :) :)
Then the BBC were reporting correctly that the teaching unions were being an awkward intransigent bunch who preach that these kids need education , but not in their schools!
at least the BBC were reporting the facts!

Fair perspective.

I guess I'm not used to the BBC reporting facts....and would far rather read positive news than arguments between people who I hoped would act like adults.

Yes. I filled in the online form and only my farm self employment income came up. Queried it with accountant and he said said no to holiday lets. Admittedly we are due the £10k grant apparently and I'm not trying to profit from a bad job but if we don't get August then its a bit of a boxed in job.
Im not sure which online form you have filled in but have a look on this site from HMRC hopefully you may be eligible for some thing . Looking on a few large cottage {cottages.com Sykes ) websites they are taking bookings from the 3/4 of July so fingers crossed thing might get going by then .

I'm looking into it at the moment. I'm with NFU and they state in my policy for the holiday rental, up to £500k loss of profit. Received a number of not unreasonable questions as to whether or not you are eligible for any Gov/LA grant(s), evidence of bookings lost, past couple of years bookings/turnover. They have an industry profit average that you can use (or question and provide proof of your own) in calculating loss of profit.
Personally, I received the LA grant and currently that is greater (to date) than booking losses, though it is coming close. Therefore if the restrictions on FHL remain (and Wales is definitely behind rest of UK) and I tip over the grant amount, then I'll be making a claim that I would expect to be honoured, based on the simplicity of their questions.
Definitely worth looking at your policy documents and from the sounds of it, insurers are already expecting and dealing with claims about losses to FHLs.

Yes ,bit of a conundrum as bookings from announcements and lock down ,plus cancelled booked bookings through year but like anything how is lost trade calculations made with last minute bookings that seem to prevail these days unlike years ago where customers booked well ahead.
Like saying how long is a piece of string?
Still then lock down and Government orders to close and remain close thus enquires and all bookings stopped whatever?
Looks like NFU looking at first quarter of lockdown firstly possibly ?
No 2 years the same and past or present figures nothing to gauge on ?

Well, I can prove loss from March - July as fully booked at that time bar 1 week, but as you pointed out, last year/previous year to both had a different profile. So I guess if you can't prove current loss, then they can only go on previous history. I did ask about submitting now rather than see the whole event out but they said better to start early in order to get the claim processed and then they can always add to it later.
They can only do best endeavour and it seems that they are going to be reasonable about it but its likely impossible to gauge precise affect of the closure to anyone in £ terms.

Well they are having none of it,saying virus not covered and I should have paid for extra cover for loss of earnings.Livid over it,we cannot open it’s the law had to refund like everyone else but still bills to pay on them.Would like to hear if anyone else is in the same position with nfu.Pm if you like.

Does your policy state loss of earnings,I only have business interuption cover for holiday cottages and they won’t pay out at all on that.

Mine is definitely "Loss of Profit". So total up the lost business (I can prove that and quantum), take away expected costs (for which they reckon on 15% for most places but mine will be higher due to changeover costs), take away the SBR Grant (if you got it) and what is left is profit. That's their guidelines for what to do.

Check your small print closely as being told by HM, Welsh or Scottish Gov to close immediately is definitely business interruption. I noticed that on Magic Radio recently there's a company with experience of battling insurance companies offering no win/no fee and free policy checks.

I am not expecting much joy from Drakeford tomorrow regarding opening up Welsh self-catering or giving us a guide as to when it might be expected. I have a couple from Birmingham desperate to come stay in July as it's their 10 year anniversary and they got engaged in the property but I can't accept their booking or even tell them whether it might even be possible for them to come visit. This is doing irreparable damage to the local economy and if this carries on for another month, then I will be taking money back off NFU

I kinda assumed ( wrongly ? ) that we would at least receive the deposit money from bookings taken this year. Oh dear, obviously not.....
Starting to wonder about the wisdom of using an agent TBH.

Even more galling is the fact next doors holiday complex has been fully occupied during lockdown.
Maybe it's NHS staff . NHS staff in campervans with canoes on the roof, and bike racks on the back...

Who do you use? Mine has been pretty good, looking after the customers and moving bookings around where possible.
National company, don't want to name and shame. They certainly look after the customers, rolling bookings forward month by month, and even into next year. My beef is they don't seem too concerned about the plight of cottage owners. Looks like the buck stops with me.

Have you had your 10k?

Theres going to be uproar soon if Drakeford keeps peacocking about. We've just had 3 weeks of bloody protests etc and no spike and fricking Drakeford is still going OTT. He doesn't have to think about the economy - how will ice cream people, coasteering, pubs etc all survive?
