Corona - Holiday Lets

I got that message 30 years ago! Looked at a nice place near Lampeter but my tent was shot through by .22 whilst I was exploring the area. I was staying in a friends field and if I'd been standing I'd have been in trouble. So back to you matey!

As an aside to this. Both sets of friends who moved to the area have fluent welsh speaking children so that is four ba*tard English children who are now integrated. They now have children of their own.......If it wasn't for the 'awful incomers' the Welsh language would be struggling.....I was best man to a fantastic man from Llanfairfechan who'd moved to my area, took an Englishmans job and worked incredibly hard for me. So, at the end of the day we're all just folk. 'Tis a two way street (y)

A wonderful warm story.
Have you heard the one about the old people that died a painful death without their loved ones being by their side because second-homers were too self-centred to heed government advice?

Possibly more updated lists also on Gov.uk

Plenty more good info there.

All accommodation closed EXCEPT for a list of common sense exemptions. Which outside of tourist areas are often the reason to book self catering especially anyway (eg home uninhabitable fire/ flood etc - SC accommodation booked by insurer till home repaired )

We have 2 SC units paid for by insurers currently, and they both keep extending. Only guests we have.

HotelsExceptions
Hotels, hostels, B&Bs, campsites and boarding houses for commercial useWhere people live in these as interim abodes whilst their primary residence is unavailable they may continue to do so.

Key workers, permanent residents, and non-UK residents who are unable to travel to their country of residence during this period can continue to stay in hotels or similar where required.

People who are unable to move into a new home due to the current restrictions can also stay at hotels.

Where hotels, hostels, and B&Bs are providing rooms to support homeless and other vulnerable people such as those who cannot safely stay in their home, through arrangements with local authorities and other public bodies, they may remain open.

Hotels are allowed to host blood donation sessions.
Caravan parks/sites for commercial usesWhere people live permanently in caravan parks or are staying in caravan parks as interim abodes where their primary residence is not available, they may continue to do so.

With the passing of the Coronavirus bill yesterday, the instruction to close premises is now law and not just an instruction.

So does this mean that a cottage owner would have to now return deposits? Based on the fact that the cottage owner can't / won't be able to fulfil their contract of supplying the holiday accommodation.

Most of our bookings we have rescheduled/kept the money and we will get dates booked when all this is over. As quite a few are for weddings, some have rebooked for in 12 months time! We have given deposits back to those who did not want to reschedule. We feel it is only fair considering the government is giving us rates relief and a grant.

There were still obvious tourists in and around New Quay yesterday. Sightings of families with buckets and spades heading to the more isolated beaches.

Sadly the some of the public c seem to think it's ok to go out if they are isolated and nobody else is around.....they don't seem to quite understand that if they were granted permission so everybody else would want it too....

I was fully booked bar 1 week up until end of July, so this is gutting. Many have taken the remaining gaps in Sept/October whilst others have moved to roughly same time next year. I've still some waiting out to see what happens end of May time but I'm guessing they'll move/cancel too.
Fortunately I'm SBR registered so have had the (taxable) grant, which I'm using with make work/painting etc to ensure the couple who look after the place don't lose out.
In the meantime, as my main job has put me on 4 day week/cut salary, I'm working all the hours I can to convert my other barn in time for next year's season (if it happens).
I've also registered with Welsh Gov to make my place available for vulnerable people - I'm probably too remote to accommodate NHS workers sensibly.

I've no idea where we are. Some have cancelled altogether, some bookings rolled over till June, some rolled over till next year. Don't think we'll be eligible for grants either. Will have to ask the accountant.
All in all, probably a £7-8k loss this year.

we have a b&b and the last couple booking I cancelled or are going to come some other time ( I was looking forward to meeting some as it their family that built the house in 17 hundreds) but it was not worth the risk as granny lives the house and we don’t pay business rates so i don’t think I am eligible for any grants. so quite a bummer

Have you applied for the business rates thing?
Even if you don't actually pay business rates (small business exemption etc) as long as you're legit running as a holiday cottage you can claim the grant.
I've never felt less like I've earned anything in my life, and I've drawn SFP!

OK, it seems in Wales, to qualify for the grant, holiday cottages have to be your primary income.
Also, you need to have had 140 days booked in the 2019/20 financial year.

I fall at both hurdles.:(

That's interesting but its new guidance it seems. I've already had my £10k grant on the SBR scheme as I applied immediately. They better not be wanting it back! I've had the bookings though its not my primary income under their scenario (currently). I've been totting up & I've lost £7k so far and with Drakeford hinting that holiday lets/tourism will not be eased until the green/last phase of his traffic lights, then I stand to lose a lot more :(

Doesn't help you though, I feel for you and why they've added restrictions to it now I don't know.
