Coronavirus Humour (And conspiracy Theories)

It comes from nuclear accidents, so would affect a fair part of the country, I’d guess.

As for long term survival, I think it’s too long to say that only older folks are at risk - whilst elderly seem to be worse for prompt symptoms, I get the feeling that long Covid might be more of a young person thing.
What proportion get long covid? Is it a specific thing or a common post-viral fatigue, like the old yuppie flu due to people not convalescing properly?

Only thing for certain (as far as I can see), is that all the money in the world won't stop the virus spreading because of how we live as a species so we have to get used to it. The vaccine may help but the flu vaccine doesn't stop c20,000 people dying of it each winter.

There is also the cost associated with catching it and not ending up in hospital. 6 of us, all around 50 yrs old were working together, 3 got it and 3 of us didn't. The 3 that had it were laid up for 2 - 2 & 1/2 weeks and obviously the other 3 isolated for 2 weeks. So we lost 13 weeks income and another contract that needed doing during that period. Rishi lost out on his cut too.

I wish I knew, but it’s telling that the only metric we seem to use is “cases” and “deaths”. The virus response seems to be more analogue than that. I know of two with long Covid - one with pre existing, early 40s and now has killer migraines every day and no energy at all. A life lost, you could say, for the last six months and who knows how long forwards. She had previously suffered from meningitis and says that the symptoms of this are worse. The other was a healthy and fit mother of two preschoolers, professional (pharmacist) and is now back working but only part shifts. Again, no energy - something similar to post viral recovery, but going on for months and months and needing a whole load of NHS attention for tests (kidney function, liver etc).

So, of the four people I know who have definitely had proper Covid, two are still (6 & 4 months later) not living anything approaching a normal life.
