"them scroungers, get a job and get off benefits!" - Guildford 2019

"how do we sign up?" Guildford 2020

Jokes aside, It'll be interesting if there was polling on peoples views towards the welfare net from the past decade and compare it to 2 years from now.
A welfare net is great and anyone might need it, using it as a way of life for years instead of working is very different from covering short term issues

The way of life thing is a myth, sure there have been a tiny handful that abuse it and are mostly caught doing so.

If there's no jobs for them long term they're shafted- hopefully this changes a subset of the populations views on the welfare system currently theres a lot of people who pretty much oppose doing anything that resulted in helping people.

You really don't have much of an idea about the real world, do you?
Sad really.

I know of people I went to school with that have been on welfare system from the day they left school!

I do actually know what it's like for many in London, since I live here and have been through the UC system.

It's a myth invented by the likes of the Daily Mail that your average benefit recepient is a scrounger.

A strong welfare system brings about better workers rights, providing there's jobs.

Scroungers some maybe but a large proportion of others are just irresponsible. There is no need for families with four or more kids and when the father(s) leave the nest for one reason or another there is bound to be hardship. The ingrained belief that somebody else will pick up the bill is really taking the pee and this really jars people off who take a rational and responsible approach. If you can`t afford it don`t have it and certainly don`t expect someone else to pay for it.

So those documentaries with the bragging scroungers laughing at the system that gave them their lifestyle were really using actors?

How a society looks after those in need is indicative of if its healthy, i have no qualms with tax money supporting single parents due to windowing or domestic abuse, unforeseen situations etc

Neither do I but if they start crowing that they have six kids for whatever reason, they have been irresponsible. One day young girls will realise that having kids is their responsibility and when they have a string of them and the father(s) depart they are left carrying the can. Not only that, no self respecting man will want any more to do with them other than a casual relationship.
I have read countless stories about these situations and Marcus Rashford`s experience is somewhat typical. If you remember he successfully campaigned for free school meals during lockdown, using the argument that he was from a large single parent family and had suffered hardship as a result. How this situation arose is not clear or questioned but it should not have happened in the first place.

Thats a bit archaic imo,its embarrassing that it took a footballer to shame the govt into doing it.

Everyone makes mistakes in terms of kids or they have had the decision taking out of there hands

Writes the man whose Forum Ident shows a cab that cocoons them about as much as is possible from the real world. Can't see whether it's an Express or a Mail on the dashboard to provide in depth access to what the world is really like in Englandshite

I do find it amusing when farmers go on about scroungers exploiting the system. IMO better to keep your head down and your mouth shut, although I fear it's already to late for farming.
