Cost of replacing half chassis in a Disco 2 ?

Looking at possibly replacing the rear half of my 19 year old D2, I've seen prices of around £1k for parts and am trying to find quotes for labour, I can't do any of the work myself. Replies so far have been "we only weld small holes" and "we hate Land Rovers".

Surely you would do the whole lot rather than half ? Especially considering the labour involved

Front half is rarely a problem. The engine and gearbox oil leaks prevent rust.

Ha an old Sierra like that oil leak down one side of transmission tunnel was perfect condition other side was dry and had a rust hole…

My old garage used to say that as long as LR's leaked oil you knew there was oil inside them, it was when they stopped leaking you needed to worry.

We had ours done a couple of years ago, about £2500 but that included other work as well. Air springs gone ,Converted to coils. The bill was hard to take but what else was going to do the job without a lot more expense (pick up or newer discovery)

Looking on Autotrader for a replacement car and seeing vehicles with a higher mileage and 5 previous owners doesn't give me much confidence.

find a 4x4 specialist, there’s one here but a fair way from you

I’d say go discovery 4, but even high milers are eye watering money now they have gone up loads

I wouldn't recommend anything from brit parts.unless you're selling the vehicle quick

I had the same problems and our Landie lad reckoned it would cost 2500-3000, and as you say, it is a real problem knowing what to do for the best. In the end a tidy D3 came along so I bought that and it is much nicer to drive but has more electronics. Everyone says they are money pits but in fairness, mine has been OK for annual bills, but I drive it wondering which dashboard lights will come on next. It is in being looked at today because the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and they said even a dodgy brake light switch can put it into lowered suspension mode.
I have a pair of series Landies I rebuilt on galvanised chassis when I was younger, and they have been living in the barn under cover, but I reckon I will get the Series3 on the road just to be sure I have a towing vehicle if the D3 goes wrong. It is a bit of a sad situation!

you plan on keeping it change the whole chassis for a galley one
