Looking at possibly replacing the rear half of my 19 year old D2, I've seen prices of around £1k for parts and am trying to find quotes for labour, I can't do any of the work myself. Replies so far have been "we only weld small holes" and "we hate Land Rovers". :(

Budget on another £1k for labour and rebushing everything while it's off.

We had ours done a couple of years ago, about £2500 but that included other work as well. Air springs gone ,Converted to coils. The bill was hard to take but what else was going to do the job without a lot more expense (pick up or newer discovery)

I had the same problems and our Landie lad reckoned it would cost 2500-3000, and as you say, it is a real problem knowing what to do for the best. In the end a tidy D3 came along so I bought that and it is much nicer to drive but has more electronics. Everyone says they are money pits but in fairness, mine has been OK for annual bills, but I drive it wondering which dashboard lights will come on next. It is in being looked at today because the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and they said even a dodgy brake light switch can put it into lowered suspension mode.
I have a pair of series Landies I rebuilt on galvanised chassis when I was younger, and they have been living in the barn under cover, but I reckon I will get the Series3 on the road just to be sure I have a towing vehicle if the D3 goes wrong. It is a bit of a sad situation!
