Cost to put up stock fence

As per title folks, what's the rough going rate per meter to put stock fence to following spec;

Strainers @ 50m Centres (double strutted).

Intermediates @ 3m Centres

C8/80/15 Mild Steel from 100m rolls.

Double strand mild steel barbed wire from 200m rolls.

Reasonably straight and level run, all materials provided on site, (over 700m in total).

As said, labour only!

Cheers

About £2-2.50/m.

More if there's lots of corners, gateways, undulating ground etc.

I would really only put up High Tensile wire the difference in price is minimal, in fact about the same as you can stretch the intermediate post spacing a bit.

Cheers Andy, think we're stuck with Mild Steel on this one though.

Working backwards from Farm Contractor book prices which included materials I just got to about £3/m, but further to your post and in my experience all these prices are a tad inflated (rightly or wrongly!?) on the 'actual' rate?

Posts every 3m and strainers every 50m and mild steel wire ???
I'd be hiring a man, tractor and post chapper for a day to get the fence up and then knock in the staples at my leisure.

Not my spec... just been asked if i'd like to put it up, we have an old parmiter knocker and relevant bits and pieces, just wondering how to price / if we should bother!

I have king hitter post driver I've been charging between £2-£3 per meter 2 being easy going everything with tractor and knocker an 3 being pigs of jobs all by hand and luging things about by hand up banks and ditches. 2.50 being a mix of tractor and hand work. If I don't really want the job go a bit more. Never had to do that yet though.

Christ that's expensive! The rate is £3.50 - £4.00 around here to supply and fit!
Which is dearer, a ht fence with quality timber put in properly by an experienced fencer with the right tools which lasts 15yrs @ £5/m, or a fence put up by a bloke from down the pub with cheap wire cheap soft timber botched together which will require constant maintenance and goes slack after a few years @3.50/m?

Yes agree it's got to be £2.50 especially with strainers and struts at every 50 metes,

I wish that was the case. We are the contractors doing the work. Can't get work for more than £4 per metre in Pembrokeshire (supply and fit at the spec in the OP).

We will travel for decent work.

Your geting a cheap job then.
it can be done for less but less posts per meter less strainers and cheap wire with less droppers. Cheap jobs always cost more on the long run.

More posts per metre mean diddly squat, as do numbers of strainers unless there are lots of corners. Good strainers and quality wire, tensioned properly, are what holds a stock fence up over time. The intermediates do little more than support it.

Good quality wire doesn't mean more droppers either, I will always spec wider droppers ('pheasant friendly') HT wire as sheep won't get their heads stuck.

I can't say I know you area well but at a guess there must be plenty of competition, although you're obviously making a living at that rate or you wouldn't be doing it would you?
A few years ago I lost out on a job which was 1000m of post and rail fencing because I was too cheap. I think my quote was about £16,000 with the gates etc, other chap quoted £11,000 (plus vat) more, so they thought I wouldn't do a good enough job as I was so much less. It works both ways I suppose.

Suppose so, but we're £23-£25 for post and rail. Do you want me to find you post and rail work and you can find me some stock fencing! We'll both make money off each others backs and be better off too...

Last fencing I put up using local contractor cost £3/m all in. It was grant work & the grant paid £4/m so I'm guessing £4/m is a common price?
