Could the unthinkable happen?

It's not always a case of trusting your "own" kids though if it all becomes part of a messy divorce (just something we were warned about when looking into similar)

No doubt it was a solicitor who gave you that warning? Remember they always thrive on problems, the threat of and looking for them. Just rely on your kids own judgement you cannot run their lives for them, they have their own mistakes to make. I can recall my parents wondering what would happen if any of the kids married a wrong'un.
If you are worried about the kids going to Barbados on your hard earned, go and do it yourself whilst you can, don't leave it to late.

I think I have been stupid, really really stupid. I worked all my life and paid tax etc. I helped my children through University so they now have good jobs and pay lots of tax. Maybe I should have rented, got the rent paid by the DSS, never worked a day, not paid tax, as now in my old age there would be no cost to me or my children for my care. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I think the dementia tax as it is called is reasonable. The cost of elderly care is horrifying but of course we now all live diffrent types of lives and family units. The accepted principle was that children looked after their parents when they became infirm but a whole industry has mushroomed on the fact that this premise is no longer the answer because we now have the choice to pass some of that responsibility to a third party. There are a lot of people making a choice and is it fair that a tax paying bin man gets taxed so another individual can pass his wealth on untouched as the state is paying the full cost. Leaving 100k untouched is hardly peanuts.
Everyone wants more money for the NHS or elderly care but it's costing big bucks and nobody seems keen on paying.
Something has to give and this I think is reasonable.

Do you have long term care insurance thru private insurance policies or is it all state operated..?
I think the point made by the Dilnot Review that the Government dismissed was that dementia costs once diagnosed are not something the private sector could cover actuarially and that Government / The State would have to place a cap on these uninsurable losses

Can there really be A MAJORITY of citizens in this country today, currently thinking that what we really need to sort out the truly dreadful situations that we are facing, is a woolly headed old terrorist apologist and his innumerate champagne socialist joke of a Home Secretary?
Whoever is in charge after this election needs to realise security of the country HAS to come above human rights. Most of these terrorist attacks through the world seem to be committed by individuals with criminal records and are on the police radar.
More people in Britain than ever before. So it follows that there should be more police and security than ever before!
One good thing is we will be free from the European Court of human rights soon.

You will be believing in the tooth fairy next.
Crime numbers have dropped recently because they have realised that by making it more difficult to report a crime the average person wont bother.
Local station wont allow anybody in now, there are 2 phones outside, 1 for 999 and 1 for 101, just dont be in any hurry though. took 20 mins last time from putting phone down to the door being opened

Exactly. We are fast becoming a lawless country unless it's an easy, clear cut crime like speeding.

Absolutely, the horrific events of last night may make the younger generation think a bit harder,do you really want JC in charge of national security? A lot of younger people like what Labour are saying, not realising they could bankrupt the country like they always do.Incidentally, the Brexit vote was when Glastonbury was on last year,a very large majority of the people there would have voted remain if they were at home, but I bet very few bothered to vote, will be an interesting election.

JC wouldn't be any worse than TM on this issue!

Don't forget that this is the second terror attack on May's watch already!

She is a very weak PM, all she has done in the last 9 months is trigger article 50 at the very last minute because she had no other option, call a General Election that wasn't needed and no one wants and appear on the one show with her Hubby!!

Conservatives have been in power for several years and terror attacks are getting worse and more deadly with each passing year and still they don't do nothing about it.
