Countax C400H drive belt tension

Hi everyone,

I’ve been repairing our countax which has been stood for a few years. I’ve changed the belts but the drive belt tension is very loose which is preventing drive. I can put it round and create some tension. I’m unsure if the spring isn’t pulling hard enough or if I’ve done something silly as I’ve had it in bit too many times. 🙄
Has anyone got any pictures of the setup for me to reference? The exploded diagrams I’ve found aren’t very useful.

thanks in advance 🙏🙂

Which drive belt?

Engine clutch to deck or engine to transmission?

Engine to transmission doesn't go tight until the clutch pedal is released.
The clutch pedal isn't locked down with the parking brake knob is it?

Engine clutch to deck is tensioned by a lever under the left footboard shown by a yellow sticker, pull it backwards to click in tension.

Firstly check the clutch spring isn't broken or not connected. If it's OK then check out the pulley/idler wheels for the drive belt, you really need to drop the cutter deck to see what's going on - levers and springs! Photo below is best I can find to illustrate, might not be the
exact arrangement for your model.

Many thanks for the picture if anything it’s put me at ease with the way the belt is routed.
The parts list I used for buying the belt listed a79 for the transmission belt. I’m starting to think it’s just too long! I’m going to try a76/77 and keep my fingers crossed 🤞
