Countering veganuary 2020

I have asked this of vegans but the answer appears to be that because it won’t happen overnight (too inconvenient), farmers will gradually stop breeding animals so they become slowly extinct - at least that’s what I have been told. So we’re going to sort it for them in other words.
I think in their ignorance they are also fixated with the idea that we force them to breed, so if left to their own devices it won't happen?

I think the buy local and buy 'natural' (for want of a better word) are really sound arguments. Lamb and beef produced here from majority grass fed stock produce significantly less emmissions than high intensity grain fed beef etc.

I do think veganuary shouldn't be a focus, this is on the whole a dieting month post Christmas excess, not an attack on farming.

I also think we need to be careful about claiming that non meat alternatives are as bad or worse for the environment. They certainly aren't as good as the common perception but if you look at both emmissions and water use they are better than meat production. Again there is a really sound argument about not buying meat or alternatives from areas where forestry is being lost, buy local should resonate.

Best of luck with it.

Not always the case that meat alternatives are better. My own beef produces lower Co2 and methane than quorn (only one I currently have for comparison) on a per kg produced basis by around 20-25%. We are not doing anything particularly special but are mainly grass fed with bulls fed a barley mix for 5 months after weaning.
We are not short of water where I am and we are currently investing in rainwater harvesting so in reality our cows will be helping to combat flooding.
A lot of the water use claims are often trumped up using rainfall figures as well.
What we need is clear labelling which shows the difference.

Taking a look a Greta Thunburgh yesterday in Davos she doesn't look very well on that vegan diet.I feel sorry for her that's she's being used as a puppet !

This photo is quite revealing imo ... here she is last week standing with school kids in Davos. Bearing in mind she is 17 ....

Completely agree, labelling and educating to show that all meat is not created equal.

I really don't think we should go after Greta Thunburgh. She knows her own mind and it is condescending to assume that because she is a girl of 17 she is being used. There is a climate emergency and even if we don't agree with everything she says a lot of it is spot on and the spotlight she shines on government inactivity should be applauded.
