Countersinking disc bolts

Mine is only a cheapo, probably Chinese. After all you only need a 9" throat, something that can be low geared, with a 16mm chuck.
The only problem I have is these modern cheapo pillar drills have a throat of 6.3 inches, which isn’t even big enough for a standard 16” disc. Not to worry.

Thank you for your advice I’m sure I’ll find one big enough that isn’t silly money.

You can also use a mag drill to countersink, they do countersink cutters. I would say my mag drill is the best thing I’ve bought on the place, so useful and the days of twisted wrists, sharpening drill bits etc etc is now a breeze, any hole in virtually anything a broaching cutter goes through.

Perfect! Thank you, that definitely sounds the way forward. I can’t seem to find any sensibly priced pillar drills with a 9” throat, unless they are industrial ones and they get into silly money. The closest I’ve found is 7.2 inches, which still isn’t fit for purpose. I agree with you, a mag drill is the way forward. Cheers.

If you do go down the mag drill route then look at Hole Maker Technology. They have all the usual adaptors plus a versadrive system that can be used in both mag drills and pistol drills.
I have easily drilled 54 mm diameter holes with a hand held pistol drill using this system - perfect for where you can’t get the mag drill in. Not particularly cheap but there is a National dealer network or you can buy direct

Excellent thank you. I bought a mag drill today and the people in the shop said that trying to get a pillar drill with a large throat these days is a thing of the past. Therefore a mag drill is the only way forward!
