One of the examples they give is 60% of pork consumed in NZ is imported and shoppers want clearer labels so they can tell where the product came from, not where it was packed.
NZ pork suppliers say its important people realise their pork may come from countries with lower standards than NZ.
So its not just UK farmers that don't like cheap imports.
The Green party actually came up with something useful, good on them.

COOL was revoked in America because Canada and Mexico successfully charged that it violated WTO.

Beyond that fact, it was a giant pita for American abattoirs and was a blindfold over many things. As an example, they needed labels like Finished in America because so much of their beef is imported live and then slaughtered, there needed to be more distinction. Product of America didn’t cover it because sometimes it was only a product for a day. It ended up needing tedious labels for almost every step. Born in America, Finished in America, Butchered in America. Plus it was apparently tedious for the plants to have to separate each version of animals in order to label them correctly.
