Countryfile tonight

Am I alone in detecting a change in editorial/producer attitudes on tonights Countryfile? There was actually a reference to farmers producing food.
Still directed at an urban audience but not nearly as poor at it was since the previous above in November.

More food production. Productivity falling behind EU and USA competitors. Farmers failing to take up applied research. Looks to me as though Mr Gove has had a quite word and Defra has told BBC what to put in the show. Now it was that Grayling fella who said post Brexit UK farmers would grow more. And Gove has previously talked about research.

trouble is are they equating productivity with profitability?
i could produce a lot more milk off this farm but i doubt i would make anymore money.

Yes, indeed, I was going to add same comment to my earlier post. I thought Grayling was being a tad presumptuous a few weeks ago, unless he knows something we do not about the sub. Anyway soon will find out.

Statistics can tell any story, the figure was over the past 2 decades, maybe UK AG has plateaued and the others are still catching up to our level of productivity [emoji848]
How did the bittern manage withoit their help?

Looks like productivity according to RSPB!

Says it all really.

A) farmers should be more productive
B) farmers being productive threatens wildlife. Thus farmers should not be so productive.

Exactly, he spent too much money on the IAE handling system, the trutest weigh scales whilst checking all the sheep have their shearwell data tags in. And that was just 3 of the stickers I saw on the equipment even though the bbc doesn’t allow product placement(n)
Noticed that Adam was holding the bolus right in front of the IAE sticker on the crush

The piece of land shown was drained by 1720, at that point the native bitterns were homeless. When the gravel pit was originally given planning permission nearly all the 1500 acres was meant to go back into agricultural production with just two meres in the middle. After permission was granted along came the RSPB. One of the justifications was that it was poor grade land, not that anyone local was ever aware of this !! My ancestors must have been ploughing with their eyes closed.

Hanson’s were cute with this one, give worked land to rspb and save a packet on restoration costs, plus get quarry extended by a third over original size because of bittern.

Can’t imagine Hanson are getting away without funding a lot of the work in setting up all the RSPB require [emoji848]

......and I don't really trust there version of things after a quote from them the other day, they rolled out a statistic that a certain bird had declined by a large percentage, what they didn't say was the year they used was a peak in population to exaggerate the decline
