Countryfile tonight

Adam has a hell of a hard job explaining what he’s doing to us farmers as it’s so easy for us to contradict him.
The bit that is upsetting to me is when he shows nothing but new gear is appears to the wider audience that all farmers are loaded and it’s all so lucrative

Exactly. When Oliver Walston did his series you were left in no doubt he was making a living from a big operation. He didn't hide that fact and bugger about all day with a dozen rare breed ponies and a few cattle and pretend all the equipment was paid for by them. It's this part of countryfile I don't like: it's portrayal of the realities of the job.

he makes money from those rare breeds I would think

Doesn’t he run a rather successful visitor attraction that these rare breeds are part of?
Nowt wrong with diversification and alternative income streams but it’s not an option open to all .

But do the public see and understand that he’s got other streams of income or do they assume it all comes from farming?
One things for sure, he would appear to be doing very well for himself

Not a rewilding expert but if you want the braids to return to freshwater marsh, intertidal salt marsh and so on why would you want to restore a wind pump ffs. It’s sole purpose was to drain the marshes I would have thought.

I hate country file
And use non carbon friendly electricity to power it

That’s a better way to explain what I’m thinking yes

The 30% below normal yield quote isn't what is known to us locally here!
The OSR wasn't even 30% of normal, either!

I know Adam personally and he is a really nice guy, perfect for the Countryfile job. He is the only bit of it I will watch!
The trouble is that he is in a difficult position and is bound to upset somebody, even us via the politics of envy!

Best of luck to him, I say.
I can't think of anybody else that could do us a better favour than him for Countryfile.
But every other presenter is complete crap!

He seems pretty quick to tell the general public that even farmers complain about him.

Do the public actually care? Should we care? he does more good than bad, some do more bad than good!.

I like Adam's style. He can't help it if he has 4000 acres and a grain drier like a factory. His job is to show the public where food comes from, how it is produced and highlight the difficulties without moaning too much when thousands of people are losing their jobs. I think he gets the balance about right avoiding detailed farming jargon. Most people even in a remote rural area like mine do not have any clue about what goes on at a farm any more than I know how my baker makes a lovely Danish pastry.
Our Yorkshire Farm shows another side of farming away from the big machinery/high tech stuff.

That isn't the issue: my complaint is how it is portrayed to the public.
I agree, it is a massive opportunity to explain the good and bad times Agriculture experiences. The fact that he glosses over what I would consider to be a rubbish loss making crop and is still able to afford the brightest newest machinery to boot. And unlike most he had a ‘ man ‘ that does it!.. It’s not envy, it’s the bias that comes with his reporting a sugary sweet version of life that most of us do not see. I am not sure who he represents, not me or hundreds of other Farmers.

He probably does a good job of putting over the farming aspect and is the least annoying of the Countryfile presenters; but I agree that he portrays the image of a wealthy large scale farmer (which he is, and good luck to him) and the millions viewing the programme every week will get the impression that most farmers are in this category.

So does he portray the right image for farming?
