Countryside stewardship: TE10 removal of bankside trees

Has anybody got experience of the mid tier stewardship TE10 removal of bankside trees? Who decides which trees can be coppiced or is it up to the applicant? I'd really appreciate hearing from someone who has successfully claimed for this in the past

I never actually claimed for this, though the NE advisor put it in my agreement as the river was a SSSI. We had the option of which ones to fell, as long as it was within the limits of the prescription. We had photos of before (and if we had done the work, photos after).

Thanks Brisel , This will be my first application for CS mid tier and am using a land agent to help me complete the proposal. Do i need a NE advisor as well? As far as I can see from the forestry commission legislation I can coppice anything under 15cm diameter without a felling licence. I've just taken over running of the family farm and can see a few opportunity that the CSS can offer.

No NE advisor required, but you need to be sure the Agent you are using is very well up on all of the foibles of the different schemes.

You will need a woodland management plan which has many benefits and protect you from any issues as well as potential tax liabilities in the future. Woodland is not covered by APR.

The only reason I got a NE advisor was because I had SSSIs and Scheduled Ancient Monuments which meant automatic Higher Tier. The NE advisor was there to ensure that those features were protected.

There is a limit to how much you can fell before you need a felling licence. 5 cubic metres I think. The stewardship does not guarantee exemption from other permission requirements so beware of this. Your agent should be aware of this.
