I know we often get hassle especially at this time of year when driving machinery or moving livestock on the roads. However we always acknowledge drivers who have been patient so it is irritating when we are on the other side and come across farmers who give fellow farmers a bad name. Last week we had a couple of days away in the Yorkshire Dales between the winter barley and winter wheat harvest and, driving on the road between Gargrave and Cracoe, came across a farmer moving a flock of sheep with his wife/partner on a quad bike in front. We've been in the same position ourselves when we used to have sheep so followed patiently behind for 10 minutes until they reached the field and he turned them in. He just kept his back to us all the time even when the sheep had gone into the field - not a wave or smile or any acknowledgement that we were even there. A wave of thanks costs absolutely nothing.

Maybe he's got so used to being abused by car drivers, and 'waved' at in the pejorative sense that he just ignores all cars now? Yorkshire Dales around now is going to be tourist season, so lots of urban drivers not used to having to wait, so I'd guess his sheep moves often result in drivers questioning his parentage or sexual practices.

opening a door holding a door open for a woman,
I always do this, how ever, watching too much Tic Tok :ROFLMAO: , I'm led to believe the lefties don't want us men to do this, something to do with a man subconsciously "allowing" a woman to leave the room (ffs)

One of my pet hates is when someone doesn't acknowledge you pulling in to allow someone past etc, some real ignorant buggers use the back road by us, short cut across the side of town, I may have used some choice language out the window the other day when someone wouldn't reverse their mini 10 yards so I had to reverse the bale trailer 100 yards and they didn't even look at me, face front and kept going - pr*ck !!!!!!!!

Language is another thing , used to be that men didn't swear when a female was present ....now it doesn't matter....makes me cringe when men are effing and blinding in front of my wife ,
......mind you the women can turf it out these days ! 😔😔
Infront of kids winds me up my boy is 4 and the amount of people who don’t curb the language baffles me

I was brought up among farmers and RN sailors, and went to boarding school and was in the Army; I do swear and I find it very stress-relieving and often entirely fitting in given situations - anyone doubting that should bear in mind Billy Connolly's famous line '''F^ck off!'' he hinted...'

But... in everyday situations I am so old-fashioned that I get rather embarrassed if strong language is used in front of women, to the point that I have been told I actually blush. I am sure some will say this is ridiculous in 'modern Britain' and it's sexist, but the fact remains.

As for children, I am sure mine have heard strong language from day one, but it has never been deliberately used in front of them - or at them - until they are in double-figures.

We also have very strong rules about the language that can be used at any given age - my middle boy, being a smart-arse, has taken to using the word 'fricking', which he heard in one of the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

This both amuses and irritates me at the same time... :banghead: :ROFLMAO:

You can't have it both ways, if women are equal (which seems to be the new normal), then they have to accept language. How about the ladettes of 90's?

What you are describing is people not using the appropriate register.

~Ask your children

Welsh speaking farmers are are known as "hambones", well in Ceredigion/Carmarthen anyway.

She is more concerned, that my Daily Telegraph subscription is in her name, so she is tending to comment in a more right of center way (and she is a very strong Labour supporter).
You should make helpful contributions in Telegraph discussion groups under her username; I'm married so can absolutely guarantee your Mrs will find this very funny. (y)

Tell us about it afterwards...

That's what the newspaper in that cab is for. Engine off, feet up, newspaper open.
