Coventry climax starter

Have an old diesel forklift here. Starter spins out just as the engine nearly fires resulting in up to 20 attempts to start. Cleaned all connections no joy. Took it to local repair place who said it's a specialised job and it would be sent away potentially costing a few hundred pounds. I thought surely I can replace it for that. No joy via Google. Surely there's a modern replacement?

Think they are a Leyland engine.

They used allsorts skid units.

David brown were common and there was some Leyland. Probably perkins too.

I'll see what I can find later tonight but if you have any other details that will be helpful. Model numbers, engine type or some pics of machine and engine and a pic of starter.

If its a Davy brown then should be easy. If it's a leyland it'll be a pain in the arse! Last time I looked there was only cheap crap copies of leyland Lucas starters nothing in the iskra gear reduction range to fit.

I think that’s a Perkins same as our climax. Ours is a 50D??? Very old mid 60s?? Starters cost a bloody fortune!!

I've not looked properly yet only just got in so will have dinner and get laptop fired up see what I can find out.

That lift pump might be in the way to fit a normal shape starter motor on it?
