Interesting, what nematode species are controlled??? If you believe the sales blurb normal white mustard can increase nematode numbers and to get any benefit I must use a "special" mustard for ££££ but your saying the opposite.I did some test weights from m² patches in a good field of radish and it averaged 80t/ha fresh weigh. How would I work out the OM volume from that, I assume most of it is water.
10 to 15% DM so 8 to 12 t/ha. A right royal result I would say

Blimey, one or two around here say a good crop of radish/mustard is as good as a dose of muck but I wouldnt agree.

Next question is of the 8 to 12 t/ha OM how much is lost when the cover is ploughed in????

I’m wanting to try some cover crops after spring barley/wheat but haven’t tried any before. Normally bale & sell the straw and have previously applied green waste compost but had a lot of compaction last autumn.

Cropping includes potatoes, wheat, spring barley and land rented out for vining peas/spring beans. Last year spring barley harvest was 20th-26th of August, wheat 6th-16th September due to the rain.

Due to the work load, later harvest up here I was aiming to use my ZS 200 M4 to broadcast seed onto the stubble.

I know diversity is key but with the late harvest and broadcasting what do you think would be a good mixture? My spreader has charts for mustard, clover, radish, Phacelia at 9-12m but it’s probably getting too late for clover...

I’ve had suggestions from seed suppliers of cereal rye/winter vetch but don’t have time to drill. Also been suggested winter turnip rape or just mustard... Worried about slugs though!

New to this so any suggestions/experiences would be great! 👍🏻
