I mourn his passing lets face it he was a good man but for ffs 24 hours a day of repeating of his passing and the continual guessing on how the arrangements for the family involved are to play out is needless , petty ,pointless ,intrusive, and is totally out of step with what we know of the man

As a resident of 'Loyal Ulster', I wouldn't say it's at all necessary to have the TV taken over by one thing, even it is the timely passing of the Queen's husband. So it was only yesterday, and the media and the country needs to ruminate on it for a wee while. But that's plenty. Necessary to move on tomorrow. I honestly haven't watched it at all on TV, but then I was weaned off TV by screaming bairns 11 years ago, and couldn't care less if I never saw it again now anyway. Mind you, every mainstream news website I visit is plastered with it.

Agree that it's a symptom of the times. People used to listen in to the wireless for the news once or twice a day, and otherwise got on with their work.

I do think there has been too much - eg as others have said, having it on BBC as well as BBC2 just crazy, but it did warrant a lot of detail - I'm in my 50's and have always been a Royalist and into equine stuff so knew a fair bit about him, but still learned new stuff. A a lot of youngsters - if they were watching, which is less likely, admittedly, would have learned a lot more as they will only have known of him as an old man.

He was 99, had a privileged life and did good work,
But
He is one man,150 000 have died linked to covid in the last year.
Do we need continous coverage over all BBC TV channels, alot of radio regurgitating the same stuff.

Thoughts
I'm a republican so see the whole monarchy as rather ridiculous; but most seem to want a monarchy in this country, so it's to be expected.

It's not compulsory. Try the off switch, it can work wonders.
Did it work for you in re Brexit...?

I see that the BBC had to have a whole webpage devoted to fielding complaints of excessive coverage .... and that Googlebox on Ch4 had the biggest audience on Friday evening.

Ah well, we have had a taste of what is to come when the Queen shuffles off the mortal coil

I agree with you , He was a nice man. He did not want fuss, The media are making money out of the coverage and therefore there must be demand for it.

Only 100,000 complaints?!!

The BBC has reportedly received more than 100,000 complaints about its coverage of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, a record in British TV history.

The broadcaster set up a dedicated webpage for viewers to lodge their dissatisfaction at its coverage after it cleared its schedules to cover Philip’s death on Friday.

That would be a record for complaints in British television history, beating the previous high 0f 63,000 sparked by the BBC’s screening of Jerry Springer: The Musical in 2005.
The BBC declined to comment on the figures and said it would release its fortnightly complaints bulletin on Thursday as planned.
Following the duke’s death at Windsor Castle aged 99, the BBC wiped its schedules across both BBC One and BBC Two to run a series of mirrored special programmes about Philip.
Viewers tuning into BBC Four were greeted with a message urging them to switch over for a “major news report”, while BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live also aired programmes about the duke.

Not need to watch, but would like and want to watch. Very different meaning and sense of the two words.

I can beat that Charlie. BBC Lincolnshire are devoting 20 minutes this Sunday to an interview with me after they found out I once spoke to the driver of the pea Viner that harvested peas on the Sandringham Estate in 2015 when Philip drove past the field in his Land Rover.
I never met him, promise. o_O o_O o_O o_O
