Covid-19 It’s home! Made us think yesterday.

Yes, same here only drilling for the last 3 days and as you say today was much busier, same type of traffic too. A few hearses and a couple of Air Liquide artics.
Just the same here as well. Last Friday I went out to pick up the lambs and it was empty, like going back to the 1930s. Today the main roads have been busy, also with workmens' vans, and the background roar from the A31 is noticeable again.

We are all self employed on here possibly?
Yes, but as farmers we haven’t had all our income stopped overnight.
One of my friends is a self employed aircraft engineer ( sent home as no planes flying ), and also has a business with his wife on two holiday canal boat barges that he’s fitted out himself and just borrowed £40k for another one that’s half built. Obviously he’s had to cancel all bookings and repay deposits, but still pay for the mooring. So overnight he’s lost all his income .

Lots of bad scenario out there.
Also if self employed and no profits, no help either?

That’s his problem. Can earn good money on the aircraft all winter, but the canal boats are a fledgling business with money in the boats . He’s a very hardworking and talented chap , who hates being idle and was asking if anyone wants help on veg farms as he’s been reading about a looming shortage. Put his name down to help with his van on delivering anything that might be needed in the crisis, but government haven’t got back to him .

I have. All my sales were into pubs, coffee shops, restaurants etc. Had sod all orders since Feb.
Total sales in March were about £300, yesterday’s chemical bill was £2500, tank of red the week before, etc. The bills haven’t stopped.
I’m ok but there must be an awful lot of self employed extremely worried right now.

Oh yes, sorry about that. Forgot about folks like yourselves who supply direct.

The ones shouting the loudest down here are the ones mortgaged up to the hilt, Porsche 911 on tick and a profitable business with staff to pay. Non stop ranting about how the Gov should bail out his business/pay staff etc from the comfort of his million plus pound house. I am unsure how I feel regarding this, feel for his staff but dont feel for him. I guess if you live beyond your means when something like this event occurs, you're out on your arse.

I get the impression that most folk live beyond their means, employed and employers. All those out there with mortgages and no inkling what that means when interest rates go to 10%

My daughter works part time at a large service area and noted that half the customers come in for petrol while the other half for an ice cream, any excuse to get out of the house.

Started drilling 3 days ago too so haven’t seen a main road since but I’d say the opposite is happening with the walkers.

Novelty of a daily walk with the family seems to have seriously dropped of in the past couple of days.
One family of 5 that I’ve spotted every morning for past week had kids trailing well behind them yesterday. Today just Mum & Dad at about 4pm.

Sorry to have done a “love it to the above”,
but sadly true. In the Cotswolds there are a few people with real money, but there are a hell of a lot , that if you turned them upside down very little would fall out of their pockets.I sincerely mean that.
Why,all on credit but the chickens are now coming home to roost. :banghead: ;) (n)

The way of the world nowadays, plenty in twenties, married, couple of kids, big house, flash cars & everything on the drip.
Plenty running about in flashy Range Rover with the tank filled with cherry.

It is hitting home to me, we have a local with it who has not been over seas and not been it contact with anyone who is a known carrier.
With in my family I have a Partner and a Mother in law within bad lungs, and ex-father inlaw with lung tumours and a nephew 5 months into aggressive Chemo. I've had to warn my kids that if anyone of them get it the out look is grim.
Mind my grandmother always reckoned we made to much of folk passing away. She used to say we'll all die one day and we'll all lose people close to us, just accept it.
