what happens to farmers if their milk stops being collected due to staff shortages? do they have anything in milk contract to compensate them or some type of insurance?

I think many people are covered for loss of milk in their individual insurance.... Might need to read small print on that one... I'm not sure if it covers other things though... Maybe if it was like a bulk tank on farm gone down milk gone off and can't be collected and needs to be dumped issue then the insurance will most likely kick in but I'm not sure if it's a supply chain issue... On our contract there isn't anything penned in for that happening, but we are covered for loss of milk .... I think others maybe in the same boat as us but each farm has its individual insurance small print as each farm has a different set up so it will be tailored to them.... Either way your pretty much screwed altogether...... Let's just hope that people still get the milk collected as normal ???

Let's hope that after all of this is said and done.... The milk demand will stay high and then the hospitality sector will jump back in and we might be onto a winner finally with it all again..... Haven't heard much from vegans lately... We have a massive string of them round our way and they haven't said alot of recent times.... Nice breath of fresh air..... Anyway
I hope other farmers stay positive, a young lad who works for me just finished college we took him on in his first year... He never left.... So became part of the farm furniture said to me this morning about what's happening..... Made a lump in my throat when someone really loves what they do and is worried the rug is going to be taken away from them.... That's what gave me the drive to keep going no matter what we have to do, jump through hoops and more.... At the end of it find another way if that way is to expensive.... I'm starting from today to source more responsibly and more cheaper without comparison on quality etc.... Or at least I'm trying, grass is really ready now just ground could do with a good session of sunshine and a bit of wind to dry it up and then cows are out....
I did think about the whole thing also.... Really although I own my farm etc and it's contents.... Its not really mine I'm simply a custodian of it for a time, the time I am here on this planet.... When I'm gone its people like the young lad who works for me who will benefit really from it and they will then become custodians also.... And so the cycle continues.... Keep your heads up fellow farmers! Draw the long face and worry away from your workers! It's our burden to carry.... As hard as it can be... Leave it in the house and put on your big boy pants and face the day! (My motto for the week) keep doing what you do best! Be a good role model for someone else on your farm, stay safe all have a great day

I'm not so sure either.... Should give them a ring really and find out.... Insurance and arla ?

Dale farm sent out a text last week to tell us to check our insurance about milk not being collected.
Surely they could bring in other drivers to do collections as non essential lorry work will have stopped?

Yes they can bring in self employed lorry drivers to do it if they have to there's plenty of them about since there work has really dried up at the moment... On phone to arla now ?? they have said that they will bring in self employed if they have to and they are no shortages on labour or lorry drivers at the moment.

we have had a missed oed collection, transport so tight, couldn't get another lorry, 5500 litres threw the dirty water, got a letter from dairy, claiming insurance. But, with all else going on, it's nothing. Every body knocking gov, not enough of this, or that, no one keeps huge stocks of anything these days, global demand, how the#### do they expect guv to just produce them ?
