Today it is reported, the "f**k business" PM wants business to come together to get manafacturing ventilators.
Looks a little late for that to me.
But anyway, perhaps we will see Weatherspoons or JCB, or heaven help us the actual manafactures get making them along with large amounts of PPE that will be needed if this escalates.

I've written elsewhere that this situation is a no-win for anyone in government, anywhere.

It is extremely easy to criticise any action and any inaction and - as ever - hindsight is always 20/20. This is apolitical, anyone in government would be following the same advice from the same CMO and CSO - or ignoring it and surrendering to and engendering still more panic. The question has to be turned around and asked of anyone critical of the Government's efforts so far and advocating alternative courses of action:

Why would you ignore the best scientific / medical advice available and can you guarantee you are right?

When it's put like that, it looks as absurd as it is. Of course Jo Bloggs doesn't know better than the very, very bright people who have spent their professional lives preparing for such times, and of course he can't guarantee he is right.

My trust - and the well-being of my family - is with the fellows in charge now. Although I hope they will, I don't expect them to get everything right every time, and I won't hold it against them if they don't. So, let's keep our heads, ignore the trolls, trouble makers and so forth; follow the clear, simple and sensible advice as it comes and carry on. (y) :)

Not really.

De-industrialisation has it's consequences, as does spending lots of time looking at CO2 figures on bits of paper.

The reality is countries that import goods are going to suffer ..

"Climate Change" isn't a crysis .. Westminster & the Civil Service IS a crysis. Part of the solution is Brexit .. "Global Britain" is not the solution.

How much of UK foreign aid will be reciprocated ?

My trust - and the well-being of my family - is with the fellows in charge now.

Leopards do not change their spots.

Has anyone heard the phrase yet"Oh, I'd feel sooo much safer with that nice Mr Corbyn and Dianne Abbott, in charge of the situation"?

The whole of the Civil Service & Government has spent decades destroying UK infrastructure & Industry, whilst at the same time sending £Billions abroad unaccountably in foreign aid AND having fake wars.

I don't feel safe in any of their hands.

We have totally the wrong people in power in all parties with completely the wrong agenda.

So last week you were calling John MacDonald a pansy among other things, and being derogatory about Rory Stewart.
Today you say

Ok I or you do not have the instruments of government, (the professionals as you put it)behind us, bit bugger me the issues of ventilation was being reported 2 weeks ago in Italy and only today the Health Secretary announces looking for manafactures to help. Some which have denied they have been contacted and last week he was spouting off about chatting with supermarkets which was again news to them!
Interesting take here

As there is a belief we are currently 2-4 weeks behind the situation when is this government going to catch up and level with the people of this country?

Perhaps your contacts in government will fill you in and in turn the population.

Just an update that I have seen.
Italy coronavirus deaths rise by 25%
The total number of confirmed cases in Italy has risen to 24,747 from 21,157 on Saturday, as the death toll increased by 25% to 1,809 from 1,441 on Sunday – a rise of 368.

So @Danllan, Shadwell politicking as you put it, or being held to account and getting things moving.
Perhaps the pressure should have been applied earlier.

The thing is how long can you keep people locked up before they say feck it and go out anyway?

If u live in a house or flat with no garden, you have the kids at home, no income on statutory sick pay of £94 a week how long will people stick it?

It’s a serious question I think a month and it will all break down and people will just start to ignore the restrictions

I suspect some folk haven't lasted a day... probably already been multiple confirmed cases who has still gone out everyday to buy a pack of fags, coughing everywhere as they go...

This is why I vote we brick all over 65's and other high risk groups into their homes for the next 3 months whilst the rest of society carry on as normal.... Over 65s are at most risk of dying and put most load on the health service if they get infected. Most over 65 will have no change to their incomes by being kept at home. Most over 65 don't have young kids at home to educate and entertain. Over 60s and unemployed can volunteer to be blocked in with them as care providers for those that need it.

If we do this globally we can then immediately reopen all businesses and airlines and stave off the economic depression we are on the brink of creating.

We allow the virus to spread unchecked and build herd immunity in the population in the shortest time possible with the minimal level of impact on health services so we have minimal deaths and minimal economic damage... its now the only smart solution to an impossible problem is it not? Once the number of infected cases starts to decline we can think about letting the old folk back out... we will also then know how many of them would have died anyway without Covid 19...

Post in the comments section of Times online. Interesting - did the Chinamen arrange it after all!!

Impact of coronavirus on stock exchanges worldwide, within 1 month: ?? -26% ?? -26% ?? -25% ?? -27% ?? -20% ?? -19% ?? -16% ?? -24% ?? -14% ?? -17% ?? -12% ?? - 17% Now, look at this: ?? (China) + 0,3% China, creator of the pandemic, has miraculously "recovered", has almost no more cases of coronavirus. The world is now beginning to feel the effects and panic about the disease. Who recovered first ?? China itself! It seems to be that this virus was a move by the Chinese government in response to the loss of the trade war with the United States. The goal: to throw the world into recession !!! Is the scenario not clear? They are already growing! China bought almost everything it devalued on the stock exchanges around the world ... with that the Chinese became owners of the global companies that are in China and without the money leaving China. ☝? This is what it's all about.

I'm not as articulate as you I'll admit but what the gov wants for the nation might not be what is best for you or your family unit. You have to use judgement rather then blind compliance imo. Sure, I probably wouldn't book a theatre ticket because of their advice but then I have just pulled my child from school against their advice. My wife doesn't work and we are quite isolated day to day on the farm anyway.

edit: No, I cannot prove I am right, you cannot prove me wrong. It would seem the decisions the gov have made are playing out to be wrong.

Policy isn't and can't be made for individuals. Ideally it is the best for most, in the current situation it is probably the least worst for most. (y)
