Covid Vaccine Roll out.

Having the vaccine is ultimately still down to a personal choice but as the Aussies are finding out this thing is not going to go away & if you are unvaccinated it's unlikely you can avoid the damm thing for ever, it's a just question of which is the greater risk, taking the vaccine that suits your age or risking possibly catching it in the dead of winter whilst battling the weather & a dose of the flu.
Life is never perfect it's just a case of trying to avoid sod's law as much as you can!

As we have had multiple reports on this thread, we should all remember what government guidance in in place right now. The people who choose not to take the vaccine often come across like vegans, they make a lot of noise for 11% of the population. If you don't want to take it, then don't.

History has shown the importance of vaccines, Chickenpox, Diphtheria, Flu, Hep A, Hep B, HPV, Measles, Mumps, Polio, Rotavirus, Rubella, Tetanus. I think I've had about 6 of them, many as a child. Luckily Covid doesn't kill at the rate some of these do.

Please keep the thread civil. If you want to present facts and graphs, then please do.

the news gives the impression we are making progress but in what area are we making progress if cases are 20,000 higher than a year ago and deaths 138 today, 15 a year ago
Classification of Covid death has changed hence figures aren't comparable. These days it's

Anyone dying within 28 days of a positive test
Anyone going to hospital with a life-threatening condition who tests positive while there
Anyone whose name has any of the letters from the word Covid in
Anyone who stopped breathing when they died (since Covid is a respiratory disease so must be the cause)

- are all Covid deaths.

Not being flippant but any stats on this issue can all be taken with a pinch of salt. Others have called the Govt out on this.
I don't think anyone knows how many have been directly killed by the virus alone.

How many ever die of “just one thing”? And how many of us would have no co-morbidities if we were to succumb to Covid? I’ve written before, but around 15% have asthma or similar, 60-70% are overweight/ obese. It really doesn’t leave many healthy types out there (and many wouldn’t even know they have them - as the pro footballer found out last month).

It’s a tactful answer to a rather silly question, imho, and probably was an unwelcome distraction to NHS personnel who were working flat out on day job too.

They don't give the number because they don't want to but is 5 or less
They basically saying they might constructively identify the person/people involved and need to respect patient privacy.
It doesn't kill healthy people in numbers that are in any way significant to public health.
It doesn't kill a significant number of people with only asthma as a co-morbidity.
Yes, it is a real waste of time working out how many people are actually dying of covid...why bother?

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

That's always the case with any low numbers - and rightly so.

It's killed quite a few, as we have discussed. Worst year of deaths in quite a few, going on the published numbers. And that's with the countermeasures in place to curtail its spread through the population so that the NHS wasn't swamped. The curve was flattened, and we didn't run out of beds, ventilators, nurses or grave diggers in the early days.

You think it's masterful judgement by politicians in timing of applying restrictions that caused the threatened " overwhelmed in 3 weeks" to never happen?

The religious angle is an apt one, as it appears science is our God and our salvation now, Don't you realise that world leading scientists are all knowing? they possess knowledge that we cannot fathom and can free all of us miserable mortal wretches from death, pain and suffering? We should all place our faith in them and entrust the lives of our children to them, we should also castigate and shun those who refuse to obey them, as to merely question their wisdom is tantamount to blasphemy.

We all have to do our bit to protect our family, friends and the wider society and if that means getting vaccinated then so be it. Not bothering is just selfish or lazy and an excuse for relying on the altruism of others for your own protection. This is not a new phenomena as it's been present with the MMR vaccine for years.
