Advice please! We still have a big standard fixed brush and would like to upgrade to a couple of automatic ones can anyone recommend? We have mixed breed dairy herd with short jerseys to taller Holsteins so I’m looking for a brush that will be a good all rounder that is reliable

Wonder if it would be worth considering one of those double brushes? One on top & one of the side.

BTW our cows love them and have battered one to death within 4 years. One per 60-70 cows seems ideal as it will allow shyer cows a go.
Got most of ours "free" as part of various robot deals so Lely here.

had different types in the past and the cows like the double brush ones the best. they seem to be able to push against it better to get a scratch in the right place.with the swinging single brush we had a lot of wires breaking over time. double brushes more expensive but a much better brush in my opinion.

We’ve had two of these in the new shed last year, cows love them £750 each and if you got them on this grant that’s on at the moment you’ll get 40% back cheap brush then

We got one of those 'free' brushes too, cows really like it, nearly always a cow scratching at it.
Will you have to give yours back now as you are selling the robots?

Are they a necessity or a luxury?
Is that really a serious question @Sid
Anything that keeps the cows happy improves cow welfare etc etc is well worth the money.happy cows cleaner cows =more milk.... we’ve got 4brushes around the farm and they never really stop always a cow on them sometime two cows on one brush.and even the heifers watch the cows on them, and when the heifers come out by the brushes they just go straight up to them and know how to start them off

i always like to see a fresh calver go back in cubicle shed and stand at the brush for sometimes unto 20 minutes rather content, thinking of putting one in the dry cow shed

I don't see them as a necessity but cows love them - we've just got a cheap static one which costs about £90 so that's a massive £1/cow for us - so seeing the cows get pleasure from them at that price is worth every penny.

Are a few of those really breaking the bank? Nice for farm visitors to see that cows get a bit of 'unecessary' pampering too. If we had more cows we would probably get a posher one.
