Cow side scc info?

Haven’t milk recorded in over 10 years, never missed being in top band, then this last couple of weeks I’ve had two tests over 200,no visible cases (every cow stripped, every milking) so thinking I need some for of scc checker.

Anyone have a Dramanski?

Or use the de-laval type machine.

Currently we use a California test when drying off to decide if treatments needed, could always do every cow but it takes an age.

PortaSCC from Millwood products. The same people that do the Delvotest. Just take a sample, squirt it on the a little strip and the machine gives you a pretty accurate number about 3/4 hour. You can do a decent number of cows fairly quickly.

Just borrowed a DeLaval cell counter off my mate. Haven’t used it yet as I was waiting for new test cassettes, but had a demo of it with my mate, results in less than a minute. Each test is about £2 I think, not cheap, but very useful.

could you not get cis/nmr to do a one off milk sampling, it,ll give you an idea who the culprits are

Was hoping someone was going to say they’ve a Draminski and it’s great🤪 If so I’d just start at the highest yielder and work down the list over a few milkings.

Cis were a pain in the arse sending someone round to input data, ffs we’d already sampled and put the numbers on the pots in numerical order for them,do nmr just collect them?
Are your liners due a change @eulb

Yes,they were ordered last week before we got a high test.

we did a test with CIS at the start when had a few problems. Just did the samples myself getting what was left in the milk line when the cluster came off. That was in the temp set up. Did a johnes test as well while at it as new nothing about the cows. Set charge per sample, results emailed or viewed online.

I record as and when I need with CIS. I post the samples myself. Postage can be be quite pricey but well under a pound all in. You may just have one or two very bad problem cows.

Not familiar with any of the machines but we can do The Whole herd on a cmt with extra people it’s not so bad.

Three or four of these are a game changer

Got a draminski here, tough simple bit of kit , tells which quarter instantly. Good at picking those cases which arent that visably different when stripping. Best to pay a little bit extra for the one with memory.

Mine was great till the damp got into it. The newer ones may be better sealed, also ours didnt give you a scc reading so to speak, it gives you a figure and you work from a scale in the handbook. Iirc it worked backwards the higher the number the lower the cell count. Again this may be different in the new ones.

In practice it worked well, could test a row of cows in no time and any cow's, or even a 1/4 reading high would then be confirmed by father with his fairy liquid test (cmt) rarely was the draminski wrong.

Brilliant things, got two here as freebies years ago. Had a couple of high cellcount results last week, so cmt the whole lot at the evening milking, and found the culprits, just mix 1 part fairy liquid to 4 parts water 👍

We use nmr essential sampling they just drop boxes and sheets we sample and they collect simple.

I have one of there:

Uses the same test cassettes as the Delaval machine. I didnt pay the price listed on the web page though.
Its a good bit of kit and seems pretty accurate.
