Not "basic " skills but more like "advanced" skills. A very rewarding and thought provoking course.

I’m amazed at how some dairy farmers that have been doing it for decades that don’t have even the most basic stock handling and stock observational skills.

Bloke that worked for US. Run his own farm, worked with cows for over 50 years and he could not work out how to move cattle. Would always be in the wrong place. He also couldn’t pick a sick cow even if it dropped dead in front of him.

Then I had a girl working for us. With no dairy training, new to the job and she could pick out any sick cow usually before I saw them.

We will probably all need to be qualified in ‘cow signals’ to pass farm assurance soon.

Always thought it was a course for feed reps and cubicle salesman to learn which end it goes in and which end it comes out from.
