Sad news today that our Local "Only Market", left to close.
Vale of Glamorgan Council decided last night and no indication to resite a new one allegedly?
Proposed Car Park to go there ?
Covered in the Farmers Guardian and BBC Wales news today also.
Cowbridge will no longer be a market Town.

Haven’t been in years but judging by the livestock boxes on the roads on a Tuesday morning there must still be a fair trade there sad news either way

It's always sad to see an institution close, especially a once-busy market.

Our local has just been pulled down, as well, but it only saw one calf sale per year since road transport took over from rail. All us local farmers got stuck into the job, the posts, rails and gates will be auctioned today and that's that. History

Not the same history as Cowbridge, mind.

Ironic considering it is a car park for 6 days of the week. They'd be better off making Town Hall car park pay and display for anything more than 2 hours, might stop people filling it and going to Cardiff

Short sighted years ago . How many small marts was there years ago around here. One in every town . If we could have amalgamated then into one big one we would have all benefited. Now its means a 35 mile drive to sell calves

Yeh that's probably right, my grandad was saying there used to be 3 in llantwit at one point

The Council voted to bring in car parking charges against the opposition policy, so if they get 200 cars in there at £5 a day their laughing BUT flip side people will go to out of town shopping areas and bypass Town.
Funny Town Council and Chamber of Trade can't see this ?
Also if Farmers are NOT going to Town ,their going to Shop and buy their goods and Agricultural services elsewhere where there is a market and support those that SUPPORT THEM ?

You would think that from a point of view of animal welfare and reduction of transport fuel usage, then it should be a legal reqjirement to have a market and abbatoir within 20 miles of every farm.

A lof the policies of the commercial world are now madness in terms of there environmental and welfare impact.
