There on out of parlour feeders most are getting 10kg and have a few on 16kg as you can imagine we using a lot of cake. So they wont leave any behind at milking as not fed in parlour

50% Will be 30-50 days calved. Averaging 25ish at the min but going up every collection. We are meant to be Ayr calving but bought a group last year which all billed together virtually.

The ones on 16 are doing 45 plus. Our silage is only worth 6/7litres hence y want to get them out.
And they been a little short of condition at calving due to crap silage for dry cows

May I say you’re the exception to the rule.
You’re honest about how much cake you feed.
I believed all the bull about all this milk from bugger all cake til the costings were left behind one day. Turns out some farmers tell lies.
You feed cows properly. I’ll bet your fertility is good and that comes from proper feeding.

Quite right, grass is basically poison to fresh calved cows and they're better off being kept well away from the stuff. Best do it properly and keep them indoors stuffed full of cake whatever the cost...

I loved my dad dearly but he loved feeding cake to cows . We fed cows rediculous amounts of meal . Grass utilisation was poor and silage was poor. We have the same number of cows feed a third of the meal and produce more milk , fertility is better , milk quality is better and more money in the bank . I don’t care what you think I have lived it paid the cost painfully to put it right . The right cow for the right system. It can be done.

Grass is the best and cheapest feed.
Cake is the best investment for cow health.

Cows have moved on genetically if it don’t go in the front end somethings gona give.
