Incredible to see UK power prices at over £4000 MWh last night. This is a nice summary of the current situation from the folks at newstream https://www.newstreamrenewables.com/news/lng-supplies-remain-tight-as-storm-ida-weakens/

Good news for PPAs less good news for power bills!

Yep - they will be firing up the Coal stations again this winter a lot according to a energy trader I spoke to last week. Yet the govenment keeps telling us inflation is running at 1 and a bit percent.

Better put a zero to the right of that number one, make it 10% be closer to the truth........................same situation over here, energy prices are rocketing,
Coal / oil / natural gas, all sharply up.

I've worked in the energy industry for over 10 years now, and have never seen the market this high or volatile.

What you said is correct, great news for PPA's for generators, offsetting the rise from any import, however could be a killer for those that don't generate.

We manage the energy of a large number of farms importing from the grid, reducing their bills as much as physically possible during these crazy times using our specialist B2B network. If anybody on here wants to ensure they're reducing expenditure as much as possible on energy please feel free to privately message me on here, or send me an email on [email protected]. There are so many options available outside of the big 6 or well know domestic suppliers that specialise in business only customers.

I'm afraid it's only going to get worse after this interconnector fire in Kent cutting off the supply from France.

Early projections I'm hearing are that prices will rise by approximately £50/MWh for the month of October.

Maybe not. Looking at an Aussie chart has a 10kW using 3l/hr. That equates to 0.3 l/hr. At 60p/l = 18p/kW hr. Standard domestic tariff is more than this and rising, plus standing charge. Of course there's no generator to wear out.
