We're looking at buying a couple of creep feeders for doing the lambs this time. we want something that will also be used to feed hoggets on turnips, must be wide enough so we can fill it with the merlo bucket and will hold half a ton, we have had a look at portequip, Watson, iae, bateman and penderfeed what is the best on the list? and if none of those what else do people recommend?

check out the advantage 3-1 feeder thread before you decide, someone more capable than me will find the link!

just got one myself and i think once the sheep are used to it it will be ideal for year round use for lambs and hoggs and ewe hoggs

Sherg what sort of cost are those hopper type , plus creep gates ? As dave says maybe the 3in1 might be worth a look at
The portequip 1200kg model is £1043 and then the creep gates are another £435, most of the big store lamb finishers go for this feeder and they look well built, I like the idea of the 3in1 a fully assembled 1800 model would come in about £250 cheaper looking at the website might be a bit more I haven't rung up to get a proper price our biggest concern about the 3in1's is they don't look as well built as a portequip or similar, probably unfairly we've got visions of a gust of wind blowing an empty feeder over and all we'd end up with is a pile of tex screws and and some sheet metal

We a couple of IAE double sided creep feeders, i think they were £225 each.

I'd have 3in1 feeders as said above, they seem much more flexible to use.

I've got some of those, they are better now lambs can't hang themselves in them now, but if you get even a moderate amount of wind and rain the feed in the trough gets spoilt.

We have bateman hoppers with detachable creep frame, . I like those, holds a lot, strong and gives a bit of shelter on a bad day, but a determined ewe will get in after shearing. IAE head in feeder with spring back bars very good, but won't last for ever, now trying a couple of 3in1s bought them flat packed went together ok, instructions could be better , heavy, didn't move in the winds, seems to work well with whole grain for ewes, yet to use them with creep for lambs, but the head plate to keep ewes head out but let smaller ones in looks about right, so just buy something you think your neighbours will be jealous of!!
