Quite !
I had no idea my mother was taking my posts so all the risk assements in the world would not have prevented that .
My point is what was so bad about the old stuff that they think this is better . Bar working in a full mask you are at risk

I thought creosote was "the old stuff". I also thought that it had once been banned due to its potential for ground pollution and its effect on skin, ultimately as a carcinogenic.

I believe it is banned for domestic use which you can only but creocoat but you can still buy it as a 'professional'

I haven't trawled through every post on here, so apologies if already mention by someone... Our fencing contractors use sunblock cream on exposed skin and avoid problems when working with creosote.

Two more things should be noted about creosote: 1) some people react far more than others, e.g. I'm lucky and hardly get a reaction, my cousin's skin swells up and changes colour so that it looks like he's been in a fight, and lost; 2) sunlight on creosote on skin tends to exacerbate any problem.

What isn't?

Creosote is a brilliant product for its desired use. If we treat it with respect we will avoid a ban for professional users. But when mixed with human skin it is an evil substance! Keep getting yourself covered in it and I’m sure long term health effects will be a problem. They didn’t ban it for domestic users just because it smelt a bit!!

I have resorted to creosoting tanalised strainers now.
They have seasoned for a year and soaked up creosote well.
Bit of hassle but may help preserve them.
