Crimping grain

Location
Devon
Been using crimpsafe and then the new version and its got better and better . We dont need to use bicarb and risk of acidosis is alot lot lower with crimp grain than dry corn. So much so weve not had any at all. The key is to do the whole job right from cutting to ensiling.

How many kilos/head a day are you feeding and for how long/what age cattle??

I crimped my wheat this year, I have started feeding my store cattle outside , in a ton mix 700 grass silage and 300 crimped Wheat, +minerals. I will be bringing them in soon and looking for the best ration to use my grass silage and the crimped wheat. What would be the best protein to add? ( if needed) The cattle will be around 450 kg when housing
The grass silage needs analysis but would be fairly decent

We soak the top of the pit with a sprinkler for ages and then use a cling film sheet aswell as a normal black plastic sheet and have the tyres touching

Today’s job

Thinking ahead for cropping this summer and like to try crimping, has anyone on here tried undersowing barley with grass/clover ley and then combining for crimping or is it not worth it and better to do straight barley followed by grass?

Should work well .
Advantage is you are cutting earlier so will help the ley a lot
Over the years Crimping was one of the better things I did ,lot of unseen advantages that you will see when you get to it
But the main point is stock do better on it
A safe feed as I like to call it ,
