Crittal bins as grain walling

Were wanting to use our crittal bins as walling around the existing shed. How do people do this? What kind of support do they need as the posts wont be strong enough?

There are several thicknesses of the Crittall stuff, I used the thickest, 8 foot sheets on end between the posts with a piece of strong 4 inch channel on top, was OK but I never pushed it. Possibly, this advice is worth exactly what you paid for it, a professional bit of advice would be best.

they need to be sat in channel at ground level which has to be tight(we pressed them in with loadall headstock), you can then tec screw them to a similar channel 3/4 of the way up.

did miles of the stuff last year 10' sheets, we thought we could leave sheets in pairs/threes and save time but easier to strip down to singles, also is easy if your on a level floor if not you must start at lowest point with full sheet then pretty much cut them all, its not a quick job and 12 months down the line had we not had them lying about from a job would've used concrete panels,

That's the problem there here just lying around. I was thinking of using the corner posts bolted to the floor and then on the top of the panels too.

How is the channel held down? Was the steel at the back of the bolted to the posts? Not sure our posts would be strong enough.

we were filling 15' bays so laid channel in front of posts and rawl bolted down and welded to posts i think from memory the channel was about 5"wide 3"deep . we thought the channel was too narrow at first but then realised the crittall sections had some spring to them and to get true 1metre cover had to be squeezed into this specific channel.

there must be some stats somewhere about load bearing of wheat at a specific depth, won't be that serious at 10' or below

Thinking of converting an old shed here, and have plenty of panels spare. Any more tips on how to do? Was thinking of using 3 panels horizontal, existing bays are18' and then putting new strong intermediate post in???

We've done a fair bit now. Corner post bolted down and the 10' sheets vertical with a corner post along the top. 15' bays and we put in extra posts in the middle. We've filled it 11' deep and no problems so far...

I did one like that 20 years ago and it survived until I lost that farm, piling the grain to about 12 feet high in the middle and up to the top of three horizontal sheets at the edges in a 40 foot wide barn

I put in additional 10 inch girders at every join in the sections behind the channel things that joined them when they were bins. No photos though as it was pre digital camera. Put a cubic yard of concrete under each girder.
