Aye but are they shedders? 1 cross will give you the bare belly and breech you're seeking.
The lleyn cross's I have got that where breed out of Marcus Bullock's tups have no belly, neck or crutch wool. All theaves scanned yesterday at over just 180% with no triplet and empty's, they are in perfect condition for living on some very poor ex pony paddocks all winter. I never thought that I would end up going down the lleyn route but atm they are winning for me.

I've a fair few lleyns in the flock now.my lambing % has dropped an the pures are nothing like what they used to be.I'm starting to think its the breed so maybe time for a change.strange thing is the pures I put to a texel scanned @197% an have done 3 years in a row.

You wouldn’t be alone in that observation. I know of several large flocks that saw the same gradual reduction in scanning percentage, eventually leading them to change breeds.

I've done everything I can think of to try increase the % but coming to the conclusion its the sheep.next problem what is the next breed to go for

Friends of ours have pure Lleyns and they scan around 200% on one cycle.
We bought a handful from them last year and they have scanned 195%, which is slightly below our flock average but still plenty IMO
What's your flock average? Are you lambing in or out?

A couple of those I mentioned went to NZ Romneys and seem happy enough, although one did reckon the Lleyn x Romney was better than either purebred. They would be outdoor lambing, forage fed sheep though.

You do have to be prepared to look at them though.🤐😂

None of my sheep can ride a bike!! Although one or two dead ones get a ride on the back of the quad.

I think it was Mark Twain, when talking to come sheep farmers somewhere North of the Mississippi Delta. who said:

''whilst I grant your honesty. I question your arithmetic''.

I didn't pay any attention to their ears, that's maybe where I went wrong:LOL::LOL:
As has been said by others, Lleyns seem to be like marmite, you either love them or you don't. I quite like marmite but I wouldn't want any Lleyns again
TBH it doesn’t surprise me that the Welshman’s method of breed identification is too stroke her ears… “ehh, there’s a luvly girl look you”

Depends on how much work you want in the long run, personally I'd go beltex but make sure it's the right type of beltex not the short little ones, that way you'll have a decent ewe lamb worth something to keep or sell, a tup lamb that will be the top draw might even make a tup! (if there pure texels) but definitely be topping fat lambs
