The odds of any of his animals making it into the food chain are remote if he’s really that bad. The odds of you actually getting any are even more remote. Either give up eating lamb just in case or just keep on being offended that he can still keep sheep.

Are you offended that he can still keep sheep?

No. My view is that we are only seeing a small part of the picture. One conviction described in a local newspaper is not necessarily indicative that he is unfit to keep animals. I hope that he has many pairs of eyes watching him in case you are correct.

Are you giving up all sheep products?

We disagree then. I think, based on his conviction, he is unfit to keep livestock.

I won't be giving up lamb or any sheep derived stuff. But it bothers me that this man might profit from me doing so.

I can’t read the full article so perhaps you could screen shot it and post it?

But I did read this bit and thought WTF?:

A judge has condemned the RSPCA after it prosecuted a farmer for being cruel to a dead sheep.

So the sheep he was cruel to was dead already?

I couldn’t get past the paywall on the Times article but from what I could see, there was doubt that the sheep was dead, hence the acquittal. The second article was pretty damning though. What is not clear is whether that person is continuously unfit to keep animals. What the OP is insinuating is that Mr Green IS unfit, based on these two news stories.

Do you have any other evidence that Green should not be keeping animals @FarmyStu ? I actively dislike the assumption that there is no smoke without fire and will not convict anyone in a kangaroo court.

You can read the other article though? That’s enough for me. The 1st article is as I described in my original post.

As I said, he was convicted. Just bad luck I suppose that the same man was taken to court again, in an unrelated case. But the 1st conviction is enough for me.

Buy direct from a farmer you like to profit from your custom.
The only way you can minimise the risk supporting this particular flavour mongchod, certainly "the highest welfare standards in the galaxy" means very little if the farmer in question is still deemed fit to be in charge of livestock.

Hey, even if he was convicted (and I can't read the articles you linked) then he would probably plead hardship and get a warning, like many other cruelty cases

I wonder if he has a current Red Tractor ticket
I expect so, as long as the dog is wormed and can produce feed tickets. 12 years of being red tractor and no inspector had ever gone in a field of mine with sheep in.
It shouldn't be RSPCA getting involved in these cases it should be red tractor, there should be a spot inspection every year, that they look at all the stock to make sure these cases don't happen. These kind of cases are the worst thing for our industry.

This person is local to me , has no farm , sheep contractor who has worked on sheep all his life all year round. Well known for being the most short tempered human alive , sheep only have to look the wrong way and he will kick off - literally. Daughter complete opposite . Should be banned for life.
