Crypto, Halocur and scours

Suffering badly with crypto so been stuck on Halocur for ages. Costing a fortune as I use 2-3 bottles a month.

A few months ago I picked up a few calf hutches to test and I was hot washing and disinfecting them after each calf. Going great. Calves going into the hutches weren't on Halocur. Now, the last calves I put in the hutches scoured and when I cleaned them out yesterday I discovered these eggs and maggot looking things.

Every shed/pen I have calves scouring, I always find the place plagued with these things and can't get rid of it.

Just wondering how has my hutches got this crypto after 4 calves in each hutch? Are the calves picking it up from the calving shed that quick?

private water supply? Are you moving the hutches each time?

You could have kept everything cleaner if you had used Halocur on the calves in the hutches..........

Calves are on cows milk and water is borewell but they don't drink that water. Hotwash using this water and hutches are on concrete so washed spotless after each use. Couldn't get it any cleaner.

Shouldn't need Halocur if the environment is right which it was imo.

Using halocur on over 200 calves a year is brutal. It's only meant for a temporary help until you solve the source.

Crypto is a survivor, it may come and go, but you will never get rid. I expect you'll be using Halocur on and off as long as you are farming.

Calves mouth everything, get the water tested. You can get specific oocydal disinfectants that will specifically kill crypto.

Have you had any calves blood sampled to check you are getting enough colostrum in?

Never had the blood tested. I'll need to get the water checked. Never thought it could be a cause but just read up on a few case studies there and water is its prime source for getting into your environment.

You could wash and disinfect a shed and ruin it by washing part of the floor down a few days later when a bit of sh!t on it.
