I chased yesterday for our outstanding 2021 ES payment. I had a call back to say that it’s on hold due to the potential of the years extension - our scheme ends this September.
I really don’t see why that should make any difference. The extension doesn’t alter 2021 in any way. @Janet Hughes Defra can you please explain what I’m missing here, I’m feeling more than a little miffed.

I'm still waiting on payment

Had my offer through on Friday but when I checked, they had removed several of the organic management options because the parcel numbers didn't match the certification schedule, due to remapping. They hadn't thought to contact me about it, despite contact about an option placed on a historic monument, which had to be removed. When questioning that they telephoned several times to chase up a response which they had given me until 22nd March to make, but still not query about the organic options. It really is infuriating. So check your offers carefully folks.

Then yesterday I had a query about my revenue claim for last year because the organic cert & schedules I had sent had a portion missing between Sept & Dec as the cert body had sent temp certificates - I hadn't noticed there was a gap... Did thy really think I had been uncertified for three months and then let back in? That's not how it works!!

@Janet Hughes Defra It really is frustrating dealing with the RPA about our Countryside stewardship. I think of myself as relatively capable and computer literate, with a reasonable amount of office time at my disposal but it is soul destroying trying to get it right, it seems needlessly complicated. After going through endless options on the phone line when I finally get through to Countryside stewardship I am only offered the option of a call back, which will undoubtedly come when I am milking or in the middle of a field with no access to the relevant information. I really am not surprised that people are reluctant to engage with the schemes.

Nothing here, yet.

Clearly, a little patience is required - it's still only April, and early days to get approval for work with an environmental end date end of March.

And, as it happens, we're still waiting here upon a big chunk of our 2017 BPS to be rectified, but we completely understand that Covid has intervened to prevent this.

On a slightly different matter, I am prepping for my 2022 revenue claim…
I don’t yet know what my rotation is for 2023 (because the world is going to hell on a handcart) so therefore not sure how much will go into SW6 cover cropping yet. So do I claim for what was in the ground in Jan 2022 or what will be in the ground in Dec 22? The RPA chap on the end of the phone doesn’t know either… has anyone had experience?

Had my offer today, it’s a fair size agreement so just to let others know they are arriving. Hugely frustrating seeing as it was sent in Feb 2021 and have only just received it.
Best of luck to those still waiting that they receive theirs soon.

Now too late for capital works here this year, and soon to be too late to establish all the proposed environmental mixtures.

Our best strategy now will clearly be to reject any agreement, if offered and, having been force to fallow all these parcels, make up our losses by wall-to-wall wheat everywhere next year.

According to Civil Service HR, two weeks ago only 33% of Defra employees were back at their desks.

I had to deal with the local Highways dept last year, I posted some things to their office HQ (as requested), when I spoke to the chap, very helpful and friendly I must add, they were only collecting mail once a week from the office and it was his colleagues turn last week, but he didn't have time, so would have to wait till next week.

What’s the latest date to claim for capital works
Do you mean to claim or to apply? I want to apply but not had time yet, it used to be the end of April but I think it may have been extended. Couldn't find anything on the DEFRA website, any help would be appreciated.

I applied last august, they’ve sent the agreement and I’ve signed it. But having trouble claiming for 700m of hedgelaying

It looks suspiciously like a daily fail snapshot.
In reality, who physically sends stuff to Defra apart from “proof of young farmer” etc?
Most of it is digital so they have no excuse for tardiness.

They don't make it easy, I'll rephrase that, they make it far more awkward than they need to but eventually they'll run out of reasons to delay it.

We had a mid tier stewardship that started 1st jan this year and obviously we have not yet made a claim. Now obviously again prices have moved and it’s tempting to cancel the agreement. Not in my nature as we have made a 5 year contract which should be honoured. Question is what can they do to me? Can’t demand any money back as not received any. Thoughts please. @Feldspar what do you think?

You have a year to establish any of the options your agreement includes.
Although it is for 5 years, you can switch it into any of the ELM schemes once they are officially launched supposedly in 2024.
If you do make a claim this year, then decide to end the agreement before the 5 years are up (unless you have converted in to ELMs), they may want you to repay every penny back that you have claimed, right back to and including year 1 of the agreement.

I’m not sure though what would happen if you converted it into ELMs, but with a vastly smaller area.

I wouldn’t worry too much, because way before we get to 2024, food prices will be so high that I expect there will be a very convenient break/end clause to it all!
