Be kind. I am a novice farmer, farmingforum member and RPA hurdle jumper.

As anyone had a CS2022 offer yet? I am mid tier.
I am assuming I get the go ahead for capital grants otherwise planting 2km of hedges is very difficult in one season.

Any advice?

Hopefully it has improved (but I wouldn't bet on it) but we did hear about our mid tier until late February, possibly March. They're helpful that way.

We put in a decent offer, but the letter of doom has duly arrived:-

". . . it is unlikely that we will be able to issue your agreement offer . . . before it is due to start.

. . . there may be options included in your application which do not form part of your agreement . . . in these circumstances, we will not make payments.

. . . we are unable to pay you for any work or costs incurred on capital items . . . before your agreement offer."

So, once again, it's game, set and match to Defra's forces of delay, to the stiflers of enthusiasm, the harbingers of disillusion.

@bankrupt we got the same note.
*please ignore this email if you have recieved your offer*
Surely in 2021 the RPA can manage an email CRM system that can distinguish between two groups of users?

Well, I have a lovely capital project booked for January that I won’t be able to claim against. Have ordered hedging to arrive early next year. The ground has been prepared.
It is just such a joke jumping through hurdles. It’s not going to get easier with ELMs is it?!
Time to go back to the PAYE day job and let the farm fall into rack and ruin (aka rewilding 😭)

Are you in a national park or AONB by any chance? If you are you may well be able to apply to do the same thing via the Farming in Protected Landscape program, you'll get payment rates at the CS equivalent rate if project approved.....

So if you don't get what you want via CS then there's another option if you're in one of those landscape ares....

Heard quite a few smaller and medium farms talking about renting their land out as with reducing BP and CS in-hand farming wont stack up.

Get on with it 4000m will take a few days
Also got 2000m of fencing to do and can't yet incur any expense on it until receiving approval.

Since making our application the cost of materials has gone up by more than the capital grant.

So, sadly, it's turning out to be yet another homemade Defra- promoted lose, lose disincentive.

but you will still claim nearly £5 a metre to cover cost of the materials if you don’t want to fence the ground then don’t claim the grant.... I don’t understand what your wingding about

I waiting on approval for a large HLS with 30000m of fencing ,75 gates,3500m of water pipe and 43 water troughs. Since applying last April , the cost of material has increased by £ 25000 !!!
I estimate that including all the tree planting 20 ha and orchards 12ha plus 4000m of new hedges that my capital works is going to cost over 100k MORE than I can claim via HLS .

Cost of materials has gone up by more than £5 a metre whilst Defra has been sitting on the application.

In defence of Defra, the dead hand of HM Treasury's fingerprints are all over this - that and the idiot governor Andrew "transitory" Bailey's managed to drop us all right in it.

No doubt the NFU will sort it all out in due course.
