Csfb in turnips

Apologies if this is wrong section but thought cropping would get a better response. I drilled some turnip/forage rape mix direct into sprayed off pasture. Made sure I told him the risks with csfb. Anyway got a phone call asking my advice on weather he should spray for csfb I told him it would kill 25-50% at best any ideas?

The rain today should help if it has nitrogen to take up. Warm dry weather favours the insects over crop growth, unless it has water and nitrogen to grow away from them. I would be looking to spray asap to give the crop a chance to grow away from them.

Check for slugs, the CSFB will leave quite a neat little round hole, slugs will leave a more untidy hole that has been grazed from underneath.

Greenland which I sold used to give 7 days cover if sprayed in evening when beetles active. New name, new formulation plus 10% price. The new formulation bit grieves me as it was the same for a decade. Used on Leatherjackets. Claimed to have same Garlic in it and same effect but back to the drawing board to see if it is as effective.
5ltr £109 del plus Vat. My system is to spray a kg of Breakthru pre-em which controls slugs. Anecdotal evidence shows the CSFB don't like the soil conditions created any more than the slugs so move in have a nibble then move on as nowhere to hide.. Any backward late germinating areas usually end up getting a 0.5 ltr of Greenland now Gard KLD however not as confident about new version till I get feedback.

Get them to apply 5 l/ha manganese sulphate to one tramline as a trial. As @Luke Cropwalker said, some of those holes could be slugs too.

More hearsay from a few neighbours when I was in Dorset who couldn’t shift the buggers with anything else. I haven’t tried it myself as I didn’t want to add more cations in the manganese salt to already hard water treated with X Change. Sorry - worth a trial but seasoned agronomists didn’t think it was worth it (ones who were giving verbal recommendations for multiple pyrethroids instead).

The dose doesn’t compare to what you’d be able to do in the field. Try applying Decis as it’s the same active ingredient.
